Default INSIDE THE NFL SIDELINES

I just watched a part of the superbowl review on inside the NFL on showtime.

They showed a clip on the Harrison TD interception run that I had not seen before.
It showed Larry Fitzgerald getting pushed out of bounds on the play and then running into a cardinal player who was standing in the illegal white zone on the sidelines. If he does not run into his own player, he clearly has a shot to tackle Harrison around the 20. It still would give the steelers a FG shot because of the penalty against the cardinals. Fitzgerald ran out of bounds ( momentum ) for about 15 yards and came back into tackle Harrison after he ran straight into the spectating teammate. That is also a penalty but it still would not be a touchdown but a close FG attempt if the penalty had been called.

I always see it in Pee Wee, how the coaches are actually on the field of play and players are crowding the sidelines.
The Super Bowl play may have cost the Cardinals the game. We can never go back because all the decisions made after that would be different. But imagine a pro, getting all the way to the Super Bowl, and because HE had to be just a LITTLE bit closer to the field then he should be, cost his team at least 4 points. Hmmm what was the score anyway ? Wow, 27-23 , gee, that is four points now isn't it.
It is often the little things that screw up the big things.
He must have made it from Pee Wee through College, and then into the Pro's and to the Super Bowl and never understood what that white part that separates the players from the field is all about. Where where the coaches ?
In the white zone with him ?

I was really surprised when inside the NFL made a deal about it but it really happened.

Default Interesting!

There is no penalty, for running into a player on the sidelines and I have never seen any official call a penalty for guys standing in the white zone. There is no rule for standing in the white zone that I could find. Most of the time they are somewhat on the field. As long as they are not on the field and impedeing play, then a penalty will never be called.

In addition...I did look up the rule for helping or aiding a quarterback for forward progress, such as when the offensive lineman helped Big Ben pulling him forward on that near touchdown play...that is a ten yard penalty...

With all that said...I am glad I am not a NFL official!

Go to http://www.nfl.com/rulebook/penaltysummaries to review the penalties...this whole Superbowl experience has been interesting...I never knew how un-informed I was about certain rules...

Here are some parting shots...once again congrats to the Steelers...this is my last comments on the subject...

Photo #1 Is the best photo yet of what I meant when I said Holmes foot was off the ground...
Photo #2 This is what I saw when the offensive lineman was helping Ben into the endzone
Photo #3 This is holding...right? Another no call...They did call two holding penalties on #68 after I reviewed the play-by-play...to the officials credit...
Photo #4 15 yard penalty for using the ball as a prop...no call...you can see the referee in the background walking away...so this one I can see how it was missed, but that 15 yards might had made a difference in the game on the kickoff...any way...just another example of "mighta, coulda, woulda"...

I LOVE YOU STEELER FANS! I REALLY DO! SORRY TO BRING THESE UP...I AM DONE NOW! THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS ARE CHAMPS IN MY BOOK!

As far as the holding calls, that was one picture of at least one hundred holds which were not called on both sides. Lineman hold.

The Harrison pick coulda-been shoulda-been woulda-been

but WAS how it ended on Pittsburgh's favor. I'll take that.

Default My Steelers connection-Franco kissed my wife!

Okay TVsCHACHI here is my Steelers connection...my wife works for CVS and she attended the CVS convention for store managers a few years ago. Every convention they have a celebrity and at this one they had Franco Harris. He signed autographs and of course there was a long line for his signature...but it just so happens that my wife was the only woman in line and although she knew I was a Cowboys fan, she thought I might like an autograph...

When she got up to the table, Franco was happy to see her...he actually pulled her across the table and gave her a kiss...my wife was a little surprised, but Franco told her (jokingly) that she was the only woman in line and she deserved a kiss for doing this for her husband...to this day my wife has never forgotten the "kiss"...and it is a great story to go along with my autographed photo...

Eat your hearts out Steeler Nation

Default TV Dudes

You know I happen to trust one announcer, Phil Simms. He is very respected for his knowledge of the game and Chris Collingsworth and Warren Sapp seem to know what they are talking about.
The comment that Phill made was that there is a penalty for a player, didn't specify receiver , to go out of bounds and keep running out of bounds without making an attempt to get back in bounds , and then returning to the field to effect the play.
I know these guys get paid a lot to keep guys like us talking about what they said.
The Cardinal dude should not have been in the white zone. They keep it clear for officals to view the plays. I believe some of us remember a game, maybe college , where a player not actually on the field , put his arm out and neck tackled a guy from the other team , FROM THE SIDELINES. I am not sure but I think it was after that they went to zones like the white zone.
It is for loading and unloading only. When you are going to load or unload , then you use the white zone. :-)

I was speaking to a friend who told me this topic was already discussed on ESPN. I must be watching too much history channel.
