Default There's more!

But first….
…this adventure began as a thought last Spring in trying to determine what college team I wanted to play with in the Detroit College City League. I’m an avid fan of the Michigan Wolverines but so was everybody else around here. In the back of my mind I wanted a team that was a little different. Not a major college but one with a rich tradition. Of course the only school for me was one of the most storied HBCU’s of all time. I made up my mind that it was going to be Grambling. Unfortunately, I was unable to play in the local college league but I was determined to get a Grambling team.

Pulling the trigger for the Grambling offense, Brandon Landers, James Harris, and Doug Williams

Default The story continues...

I started doing my research last Summer. At first, I got some great information from databaseFootball.com. They had a list of all the Grambling players who played in the NFL. I compiled a list of the great ones who made the Hall of Fame, those who had distinguished careers, and those that played for a lengthy period of time. My next step was to call the Grambling athletic department. I was disappointed that they did not have the info I was looking for readily available but they introduced me to a gentleman who maintained a treasure trove of GSU sports information. I sent him my list and he returned it with the numbers those players wore while attending Grambling. One of the things I had to consider was that those that played in the NFL played a different position in college. Because we weren’t sure about a few positions I took liberty and placed them in the position they played in the pros. I also included players that are either currently or were recently on the team in order to fill my roster. Now with a roster in hand I was ready to commission someone to customize and paint my team (I know I spoke to a couple of you out there).

Default The Protectors

I ended up doing the customizing and painting myself. Two coaches who have become good friends during this process, Hooper (Scott Hooper) and Wolverinefan (Chuck Lawrence) get the credit (or if you guys don’t like my team then they get the blame) in talking me into doing this myself. Scott told me “don’t pay anyone a dime until you’ve tried to customize some players yourself”. I was going to hire Chuck to paint my team (he’s one of the best out there) but he suggested that I give it a try. I was hesitant at first but after watching some of this forum’s talented guys out there, not to mention young Michael out there painting up a storm on those Vikings I took the plunge.

Protecting the Field Generals and opening holes for the running backs is the offensive line.

Default Coach you are inspiring me...

to do some work too.

I've got a little left on a team of Dolphins and then I will be doing some college emotions! Keep posting those outstanding Grambling Tigers.

Default W-i-d-e Receivers

I studied the work of Michigan Joe (I got a couple hybrids in there dude), One2watch, Reggie Rutledge, and others when it came to customizing. I tried to follow the advice of Guttman, Fields, and a few others from the Tweak while painting my figures. I personally don’t think I came anywhere close to those guys with my finished product but it was a blast for the most part.

Dwight Scales, Jake Reed, Charlie Joiner, and Sammy White will be striking fear in the hearts of secondaries this season.
