Phil, I hadn't thought about a MVP award yet, but I like the idea. So far I'd have to say that the Bible Thumper, Billy Bob Weisser has the most impressive resume so far, but the season isn't over. Defensively, Norm Nest had been a monster in the Bees secondary, and also deserves some consideration. At any rate, here's the summeries for 'week' 6.....

Flaming Fairies 35 - Third Reich 29

The Fairies overcame two turnovers and untimely penalties, and finally got their running game untracked to prevail, 35 - 29. Wilhelm Klink had a stellar day, completing 12-17-0 for 158 yards and 2 TD’s for the Reich, but it couldn’t keep them from losing their 6th straight game. Chants of “Munich Lions” could be heard near the end of the game from the fans, an obvious reference to the Detroit Lions winless season last year.

Manfred Mann’s interception set up Munich in Fairy territory, and Gunther Huber caught a 13 yard TD pass to put the Third Reich up 7-0 at the end of one. The Fairies came back on Gene Simmons 85 yard TD reception. The Reich marched back and scored on Richard Meier’s29 yard reception. Simmons’ 49 yard TD reception tied the game at 14 all for the half.

In the third quarter, James Leach ran 11 yards to put San Francisco up 21-14 going into the fourth quarter. Johnny Holmes burst open with a 84 yard TD run to make it 28-14. The Reich came back with a furious rally, and Huber’s second TD catch of the day trimmed the score to 28-21. The Reich recovered the on-sides kick, and Fritz Mueller’s 1 yard plunge brought them to within one point. The Reich decided to go for a win instead of playing for a tie, and converted the 2 point play to put them in front 29-28 with little time left. Tommy Cruise calmly led his team down the field, and Holmes’ second TD of the day made the final score 35-29.

Holmes had a career best 195 yards rushing and 2 TD’s for the Fairies, while Richard Meier ran for 105 yards, and caught 4 passes for 69 yards and 2 TD’s for Munich. Derrick Danker had 4 tackles for the Reich, while Barney Frank and Ron Simmons had 5 tackles each for San Francisco.

Battlin' Bozos 23 - Mennonites 21

The game was a first for the WMLMF, as Tim Young, from the Hoosier Heartland league, stepped in to coach the Mennonites, while Al Dunham took over coaching duties for the Battlin’ Bozos. Both teams fought tooth and nail, and in the end it was the clowns who stood victorious in a thrilling game that came down to the last play.

5 ½ got the first score of the game on a picture perfect 37 yard run around the left end that literally brought the lights down. In his excitement, Rav Al tossed his arms into the air, where he inadvertently hit the florescent light that was hanging down which shattered glass all over the floor. The game was temporarily halted until a new bulb was installed and the ground was cleaned up.

The Amish guys came right back and scored on Speedy Ezekiel’s 13 yard run to tie the game. The Bozos got a great kick return, and 2 Cents’ 28 yard scamper put the clowns back in front, 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was a defensive stand off, and Bernie’s 60 yard field goal at the end of the half made the score 17 - 7 Battle Creek.

Billy Bob Weisser guided the Mennonites on a nice 61 yard, 12 play drive that culminated in a 26 yard TD run by Luthar Lamp that made the score 17-14 going into the final quarter. Once again, the Amish team drove the field, and Speedy’s second TD of the day put the Mennonites on top, 21-17. The Bozos battled back, and 2 Cents scored from 13 out. The clowns went for the 2 point conversion, but failed, to make the score 23-21. The Mennonites got a terrific kick return to the Bozo 43. Three straight pass attempts got no yardage, and Mathew Martin’s 60 yard field goal attempt was high enough, but not long enough as the clowns held on to win their second game of the year.

Speedy rushed for 100 yards and 2 TD’s, while the Bozos were led by 2 Cents’ 74 yards and 2 TD’s. Defensively, the clowns were led by Plus and Greaterthanfour with 6 tackles each. The MFCA’s own Lynn Weirdwolf Schmidt came up with 4 tackles for the Mennonites.

I want to personally thank my good friend Tim for his outstanding job of coaching and helping me out with my solitaire season. It was a great game and a lot of fun, broken light notwithstanding.

AM and -6 put pressure on Billy Bob Weisser

Killer Bees 35-Zombies 14

The Killer Bees defense had another spectacular game, as they came up with 3 interceptions and 2 sacks in a 35 - 14 rout over the Zombies. For the second week in a row New Zealand’s running game struggled to move the ball as they fell to 3-3 on the season.

Willie Wasp’s first quarter interception set up the Bees first score on Peter Pollen’s 56 yard TD catch for a 7-0 lead going into the second quarter. New Zealand bounced right back and evened the score on Jerome Bettis’ 2 yard TD plunge. Steve Swarm’s 41 yard TD run made the score 14-7 at halftime.

After an exchange of punts, Afri Canized’s 4 yard TD reception put Kalamazoo up 21-7 heading into the final quarter. Swarm’s second TD of the day made it 28-7. Tim Brown caught a Bart Starr pass to cut the lead to 28-14. Canized scored from 17 yards out on a Kingbee pass to extend the Bees lead, 35-14. Dan Fouts tried to rally his team, but Norm Nest’s second interception sealed the game for the Bees.

Curtis Martin ran for 69 yards to lead New Zealand, while Kerry Kingbee was 6-10-0 for 143 yards and 3 TD’s for Kalamazoo. Merlin Olsen led the Zombie defense with 4 tackles, while Jerry Yellowjacket and Mudd Dauber each had 4 ½ tackles and a sack apiece for the Bees.

Sam Swarm, #23, scores from 41 yards out

Toxic Waste 49 - Sasquatch 39

The Sasquatch were stunned by a Toxic Waste team that easily played their best game of the season. The Waste rushed for 204 yards, almost equaling the total of 216 yards the ‘Quatch had given up for the first five games of the year. George Dubya completed 6-8-0 for 190 yards and 3 TD’s as Three Mile Island improved their record to 3-3.

The game got off to an ominous start for the bug guys when Trotter fumbled the opening kick at their 37. It only took one play for Dubya to find Orenthal Simpson open for a 37 yard TD toss. Carlos Helu then intercepted Stinkwater’s first pass of the game, giving the ball back to the Waste. Steve Colbert ripped off a 73 yard TD run for a 14-0 lead. Muckman came through on the ‘Quatch’s next drive for a 21 yard TD run. Colbert scored again as the quarter came to a close for a 21-7 lead. The second quarter was all defense, and Bunyon’s 27 yard field goal on the final play of the half made the score 21-10.

The second half was a back and forth battle. Colbert scored to push the Waste lead to 28-10. Theodore caught a Stinkwater pass for a 56 yard TD to make it 28-17. Terry Owens scored on a 28 yard pass from Dubya to make it 35-17 going into the fourth quarter.

Badgas scored on a 49 yard bomb to make it 37 - 24. The Sasquatch tried an on-sides kick, but it was recovered by the Waste. Jim Baker then scored on a 17 yard pass to put the Waste back up 42-24. Muckman’s 49 yard TD run brought the Canadians within 11, 42-31. The ‘Quatch then recovered the on-sides kick, and Grog’s 43 yard TD and 2 point conversion had the Bigfoot team down by only a field goal, 42-39. Another on-sides attempt failed, and Colbert’s 40 yard TD run finished the scoring, 49-39.

Steve Colbert ran for 158 yards and 3 TD’s for Three Mile, while Stinkwater finished 9-16-1 for 269 yards and 2TD’s for the ‘Quatch. Dick Cheney had 6 tackles for the Waste while Gopher and Tank had 4 ½ tackles each for the Sasquatch.
