'Week 7" was a wild one as some teams continued their climb, and others continued their slide. Here's the results........

Fairies 52 - Zombies 49

The San Francisco Flaming Fairies outlasted the New Zealand Zombies, 52 -49, in a wild game that broke the WMLMF scoring record. In a bizarre twist, the Fairies, with the leagues worst rushing offense, ran for 5 touchdowns against the leagues #2 rushing defense.

Jerome Bettis scored the first 2 touchdowns, on runs of 80 and 52 yards to put New Zealand up 14-0. James Leach answered with a 23 yard TD run of his own to make the score 14 - 7 at the end of the first quarter.

Russ Francis scored his first points of the season with a 5 yard TD catch to make it 21-7 Zombies. Leach then returned the kickoff 90 yards for a score and it was 21-14. Johnny Holmes’ 45 yard TD run tied the score at 21 all. James Lofton’s 64 yard TD reception and Leach’s second TD run made it 28 all at halftime.

The defenses stepped it up in the third quarter and Leach’s 29 yard TD run had the Fairies on top, 35-28 going into the final quarter. Pat Medown kicked a 35 yard field goal made it 38 - 28. Billy “White Shoes” Johnson returned the kick for a TD, but Leach ran his kick back for his 2nd returnTD to make it 45 - 35 San Francisco. Holmes’ 2nd TD seemed to put the game out of reach at 52 - 35, but the Zombies rallied right back. Bettis scored on a 5 yard screen pass and recoverd the on-sides kick. Lofton then made his 2nd TD catch to pull the Zombies within 3, 52 - 49, but the Fairies covered the next on-sides attempt to close the game.

Leach ran for 109 yards and 3 TD’s and returned 2 kicks for scores to lead the Fairies. Bettis ran for 197 yards and 2 scores, while Dan Fouts and Bart Starr combined for 9-14-1, 224 yards and 4 TD’s. Cornelius Bennett had 6 ½ tackles for the Zombies, while Forrest Whittaker had 2 tackles and an interception for the Fairies.

Battlin’ Bozos 42 - Toxic Waste 28

The Battlin’ Bozos kept their playoff hopes alive with a 42-28 victory over Three Mile Island. 2 Cents carried the ball for 186 yards and scored 3 touchdowns, 2 on the ground and one through the air and the Bozo defense came up big when it mattered most to improve their record to 3-3-1.

5 ½ took over the starting job from More or Less and scored from 9 yards out to put the clowns on top 7-0. Orenthal Simpson scored on a 80 yard run to tie it up at 7 all. Not to be outdone, 2 Cents scored on his own 80 yard run to make it 14-7. The Toxic Waste drove to the Bozo 18 on a 15 play drive but came up empty when the clowns defense held on a 4th and 1. Battle Creek took over on downs and marched up the field where 2 Cents scored from 8 yards out to make it 21-7. Steve Colbert returned the kick 96 yards for a TD and trimmed the lead to 21-14. Pi connected with 2 Cents on a 15 yard toss to make the score 28-14 at the half

Colbert got the second half rolling with a nice 46 yard TD run to bring the Waste within 7, 28-21. 5 ½ showed why he is fast becoming a star for the clowns as he returned the following kick 90 yards for a TD and a 35-21 lead. George Dubya guided the Waste on a beautiful 13 play, 80 yard drive by completing all 5 of his passes, the last of which was a TD toss to Colbert and brought the Waste back to within 7, 35-28.

More or Less came in for the fourth quarter and made the most of it, scoring on a 10 yard pass from Pi for the final score, 42-28. Pi finished the game 5-9-0 for 123 yards and 2 TD’s. Dubya threw for 167 yards, going 13-19-0 and a TD. Colon Powell led the Waste defense with 4 tackles, while One Eleven had 7 tackles and a sack to lead the Bozos.

Third Reich 28 - Killer Bees 21

The Munich Third Reich finally got the affe (German for monkey) off their backs with a hard earned victory as they limited the Killer Bees to just 107 yards rushing. Wilhelm Klink, making the most of what was available to him with a short passing game, completed 11-19-0 for 2 TD’s and 120 yards.

The Reich scored on their first possession on a 58 yard Franz Schultz field goal for the only points in the first quarter. The Reich then backed the Bees up to their 11, where they recovered a blocked punt for a TD and a 10 - 0 lead. Hank Hornet got the Bees on the board when recovered a Fritz Mueller fumble and ran it in 8 yards to make the score 10 - 7. Schultz kicked a 44 yarded at the end of the second quarter to make it 13 - 7 Munich at the half.

Jason Stinger caught a 16 yard Kerry Kingbee pass to put Kalamazoo up 14 - 13. Kingbee connected with Stinger again at the end of the 3rd for a 21 - 13 lead. The final quarter belonged to the Third Reich, as they ran all but one play. First, Peter Becker scored from 13 yards out on a Klink pass. With the 2 point conversion, it tied the game at 21 - 21 The Reich then kicked and recovered an onsides kick, which brought out jeers of protests from the Killer Bees fans, as there was still plenty of time remaining in the game. Munich then used a dominating time control offense and ran off 12 straight plays which ended with Klink throwing his 2nd TD to Becker and an 28 - 21 lead. On their fist play, Dieter Schmidt intercepted Kingbee’s pass and the Reich ran out the clock from there.

Kingbee was 5-10-1 for 147 yards and 2 TD’s. Richard Meier had 48 yards rushing to lead the Reich. Defensively, Norman Nest led the Bees with 5 tackles while Schmidt had 3 tackles and an interception for Munich.

Midwest Mennonites 41 - Canadian Sasquatch 27

The ‘Bible Thumper’, Billy Bob Weisser was a perfect 8-8-0 for 195 yards and a TD, and the Mennonite defense came up with the greatest goal line stand in WMLMF history, stopping the leagues #1 and #2 rushers on a first and goal from the one inch line to win the battle of division leaders, 41-27. The game featured 7 different lead changes.

Bunyons put the ‘Quatch on the board first with a 49 yard field goal and a 3-0 lead. Brother Speedy Ezekiel returned the following kick 88 yards and a score to make it 7-3, Mennonites. Grog came right back and rambled 75 yards for a TD and a 10-7 lead. Steve Stucky hauled in a Weisser pass for a TD and the Amish were back in front, 14-10.

In the second quarter, Muckman took a short screen pass from Stinkwater and a 17-14 lead. The Amish marched back down the field, and Ezekiel’s 2 yard TD plunge made it 21-17 at halftime.

The second half started out as the Muckman/Grog show, and Muckmans TD run put the big guys back on top, 24-21. Once again, Speedy answered the call for the Amish and scored from 8 yards away and a 28-24 lead. On the next possesion, Grog fumbled the ball and Brian Brenneman scooped it up and ran 20 yards in for the score to increase the Mennonite lead, 35-24. Bunyons’ 2nd field goal of the day brought the Sasquatch back to within 8, 35-27. Luthar Lamp ran 55 yards for a score and a 41-27 lead going into the final quarter.

Stinkwater guided his team down the field, completing 3 passes in a row. His last pass was a 23 yarder to Theodore, but Bud ’The Beerman’ Weisser made a spectacular tackle at the one inch line. The Mennonite defense then stopped Grog and Muckman on 4 straight runs and took the ball over on downs at the Mennonite 3 yard line. Tight end Steve Austin made a crucial first down catch, and the Mennonite were able to run out the clock for the win.

Stinkwater completed 6-11-0 for 149 yards and a TD for the ‘Quatch. Lamp rushed for 96 yards on 9 carries and a TD for the Mennonites. Chappy led the Sasquatch defense with 4 tackles while Sam Smucker was tops for the Amish with 5 tackles.

Who's hot?

Flaming Fairies - They have won 2 in a row, and look like they've finally found their running game. They're playing like they did last year on their way to the championship game.

Battlin' Bozos - Also winners of 2 in a row, the Bozos have battled back into playoff contention. 5 1/2 has taken over the starting running back position from More or Less and has rejuvinated the Bozo offense.

Who's not?

Canadian Sasquatch - After winning the first 5 games of the season, the 'Quatch have lost 2 straight. Their run defense, which had only given up 216 yards in the first 5 games, has surrendered 360 yards in the last 2.

New Zealand Zombies - Also losers of their last 2 games, the Zombies have lost their touch running the ball, especially Marcus Allen, who only has a total of 16 yards in that stretch.
