Default Our First Game - Father/Son

Well, after three years of acquiring boards, teams, and compiling rules and collecting various technical tips, I finally took the plunge and played my first game of electric football in 32 years —and my five year old son was right with me for the ride. I'd been keeping my kit at my mum's house and decided to playtest the ideas I'd been developing all this time. My son knew the stuff was in the closet, and as we were over there today I decided it was as good a day as any to get back into the game but also to show my boy what it's all about.

Drawing two teams from a bag of figures I'd bought from TVs Chachi (clearance from an estate sale), I gave him a set of white-and-red figures while I took maroon ones with gold ram-horns on the helmets. I handled the set up of formations, kept to a very basic running game format and played possession sets —four downs to score, automatic turnover after fourth down, no kicking, and a FG awarded to the team which gained the most yardage in the set. However, when his team was on offence, he handled the clicker.

Well, my boy's team won 17-0. Number 32 of the Knights was his picked ball-carrier and he went 200+ yds with two TDs. My Golden Rams got into the red zone only once the whole game and even then his team outgained mine on yardage to collect a FG. Tough defence kept my team pinned down and unable to make any advantage. My little man was thrilled to be the winner.

It was a rather haphazard affair and a bit undiciplined, but I've at least had my first actual experiment with running a game, and my son got to have the Thrill of Victory.

Default GREAT !!!

That's GREAT to hear. I hope you enjoy more games moving forward...
I played my 1st game on Jan 1st against my 22yr old after 38 yrs. By March, played my 1st competitive game here in the DSEFL and have already attended the Dixie league "tourney" and the Bama Blast...guess you can say I'm all in...having fun learning the ropes

Looks like your about 120 miles from Atlanta, so if ya need anything give us a shout and keep enjoying, especially with your boy.

CONGRATS TO YOUR SON

Regards,

Joe Ram

Yes... My son's first game and he won. He's going to remember that, and I've no doubt he'll clamor for another game each time I take him over to visit his Grandma Addie.

On a technical note: the game was run on a 1985 Tudor n.600 Super Bowl board I'd acquired off E-bay two years ago but which was in pristine condition. The teams mounted on polo-green Miggle rookie bases bought around the same period but used for the first time today, having been stored prongs-up. They proved a good combination: the figures ran well and mostly straight, with good speed dowfield. The board itself delivered even vibration, with only two dead spots, and was quite level endzone to endzone.

Default Wonderful

I intorduced my then 5 year-old to EF about 3 years ago. We scrimage weekly and I run my own solitare league. The palyers that I use are hand painted and decled by me. My son also paints his teams as well.
I am probably more into the game and the hobby than my son but, we enjoy all the same.
Good luck and keep playing and having quality tiem with your child.

It really does not matter that the game was undisciplined and haphazard but what does matter is the fact that father and son got together and had a great time. Glad your first game of EF after 32 years was a blast.

Oh, I know. And the game was most satisfying.

The fact that the game was satisfying is the most important thing. Continue to have fun with your father and son games. It is important that the next generation learn the fun they can have with electric football.

Sorry, it has taken me so long to post on this, but Congratulations! I remember the first time I found the game as an adult and will never forget turning it on for the first time. Instant shot back to my youth and it felt so good. That is EF/MF's hook!

Love your story and hopefully there will be many more games where you can get revenge on your son... I know I have never beaten my 6 year old yet ....come to think of it...I've never beaten anyone. Why do I play this game???
