Default Decak Setting Solution

I use Walthers but lately it has been eating my paint. Does the solution get old? Should I put a coat of clear coat on first before decaling or use a different setting solution?

Some folks don't even use the solv-a set...I just clear coat 'em before The decal is applied and then after. Then maybe one more time for if there are numerous jersey decals...I use the Delta Ceramicoat Varnish (Matte and Gloss)

Dandy Don,

Does the clearcoating first make the decal hug the figure? What happens to the excess paper that is not a decal?

Default I have never used a setting solution

I only use a clear coat after everything is done, however, If there are tons of decals then I coat them in stages. I used model masters semi-gloss acrylic lightly to hold them in place, then once I am finished I put on a gloss coat.

Do your decals fit snug on the figures Big Dawg, or do some look raised off of the figure?

Default 99 out of 100 fit snug

but if you get a defiant decal you can just hit it with another coat of the gloss and you won't be able to tell the difference.

Default solvaset

I always apply one coat of gloss clear coat after painting and before applying the decals. The clear coat usually needs about 6 hours to completely dry. Then I put a dab of solvaset on the figure immediately before applying the decal. This makes the decal conform to the shape of the plastic. On some decals, I even apply another dab of solvaset after the decal is on the figure. Then I apply another coat of gloss clear coat after the decal has set for several hours.
