Default PLEASE EXPLAIN THE PRE CUT DECALS

Coaches,

please explain the pre cut decals for a moment. I UNDERSTAND THE HELMET LOGO END OF IT. BUT,

1) ARE THE LEG, JERSEY, AND HELMET STRIPES PRE CUT. ?

2)ALSO, THE NUMBERS, We all know we jump around on the sheet cutting out numbers as we go. SO HOW DOES THIS WORK ?
Im assuming you cut out an entire row, BUT WHAT IF THERE ARE A FEW NUMBERS IN THAT ROW YOU DONT NEED . HOW DOES THIS WORK ?

Thanx

if you don't decal already, no amount of explaining will help you.

basicly, if you dropped the whole sheet in water, all the decals will come off and look like you cut them all.........

Default What!

K-Lo,

I'm with Dre on this one. Suppose you don't need all of the numbers? Most of us use approx half to two thirds of a sheet. Some prefer to decal some now, some later. If I have to cut out only what I need then what's the advantage of pre cut decals?

Default LISTEN TO SETROIT CHILD

K-lo,

Listen to detroitchild, that's exactly what i am getting at. many coaches dont decal everything all in one day. You cut as you need. So your basically saying leave everything in the water until your ready for it.

what if i only needed numbers 1, 3, 5, 7 , 9, 11 for decaling tonight. What happens to 2,4,6,8,10.

I've decaled plenaty of players, i never follow a sequence of numbers,

i can decal a player with number 90 and the next player could be # 58.
I always jump around the sheet. So that's why im asking how does this work. THE HELMETS ARE SIMPLE, ITS THE SAME EXACT LOGO OVER AND OVER.

THANX
MANTARAYDRE

Dre and others:

The beauty of pre- cut decals is that you DON'T HAVE TO to trim around complex shapes. Which is especially helpful for pant leg stipes (and a big time saver). But you will still need to use the exacto knife to cut helmet stripes and the like to the length you need.

I still cut the numbers I am not using as needed.

Also, with a good decal sheet you can re- use the decals you didn't apply. Just let them dry and soak'em later as needed.

For precutted decals , just do what you do usually : cut what you need on the sheet, and put it in water. The biggest advantage of precuted decals is that you can cut very roughly around the decals you want, then in water the precutting will separate smoothly the things needed, properly.

In slot cars I use often precutted decals. You gain a lot of time, since to make good clean cuts it takes a lot of time.

The only issue with precutted decals is that generaly you'll have a little transparent border around the logo/stripes/whatever. When you glue it on the figure/car or wathever, it may be visible. In modelling, we call that silvering.

To avoid this issue, you can use decals products in modelling brands ranges, or simply use a little Future (dipping the decal in it, or add future in the decals water). Carefull with future since the "futurized" decal will sticks fast on the figure (even if you can remove it putting some water on it).

Personnaly, I don't like when I have to cut decals myself, or only numbers and "square" things. If i add to cut stripes by hand, I prefer to paint it.

hope it helps.

Pre cut decals does not eliminate the need to cut decals as you need them. But they sure do make it easier, especially if you are completing a full squad. We are SPOILED that there is access to some vary good decals. Not to knock anyone else who makes them, but Mike Beal and B-Nutt's decals are OUTSTANDING....

I got B-Nutt's NY Giants Pre- cut decals and they were FANTASTIC. The white's are VERY bright (you would be surprised the difference it makes...)
and they include (pre-cut!), the small helmet numbers. The red for the white jersey was dead on.

Now I hear even more teams (and college) are on the horizon. Are you kidding me? Awesome.....

It makes you want to paint that team just because the decals are out......
Painting is great and I can paint (I used to use ink and quils to outline in the days before decals), but with a good set of decals, you can do more players and they will be uniform, detailed, colorful, and fantastic.....

Default precut decals

Each individual decal has a film around the decal that allows the decal to slide off separately and therefore you don't have to trim around each decal. The most time consuming part of decalling is eliminated - trimming. The new leg stripes are incredible - you can cut an entire row of leg stripes off and place them on a wet sponge and just slide each decal off one at a time! It will literally save you over half the time of decalling a team!

The precuts also have brighter colors and you will never have the faded look when placed on darker backgrounds. For example, orange place on a dark blue jersey will now pop out at you. The whites are incredible and so are the yellows.

I hope this helps.

Default Pre -Cut Decals....

First let me say that pre-cut decals DO cut your
detailing time in half.Literally.Now to help explain
pre-cuts.
Example- Helmet logos : regular decals you have to
"score" between the two logos. This breaks them up
or into 2 separate decals. If you didn't do this you'd
have both decals come off together.Scoring separates
the two so you can apply to either side of helmet;
You also have to cut close/trim regular decals as close
to the decal as possible to eliminate excess film,i.e. rice paper
as i call it.All this trimming/cutting takes ALOT of time.
BUT,with the pre-cuts you don't have to "score" them
or trim close .As Brian said, they are covered with a film
but the film doesn't extend way past the outside edge
of the decals. The film is just past the edge of the decal
thus eliminating the excess film,( rice paper) .All you have
to do is "cut around",say two helmet logos,or two pants
stripes. No scoring or close trimming.Drop them in water
and they are already separated.Same with numbers or
any of the decals. You are usually using 2 of "most"
decals,so just cut around the 2 you need,be it numbers,
helmet logos,pants stripes,whatever and you're set as
far as cutting /trimming goes.No need to use a decal
set either.Decal set solution basically helps the decal
lay flat/snug/tight against the object /figure.It in turn
makes the excess film/rice paper that you get from
regular decals,lay flat.Good stuff.Does it's job,but
with pre-cuts there isn't a need,in most cases for
decal-set solution. You may need it in a rough area
but otherwise it's not really needed.I guess you could
use it with pre-cuts,but you really don't have too.
By the way,I use Walthers Solva-Set decal solution
when using regular decals.Great stuff.
Hope this helps to explain Pre-Cut decals. They look
great and save a ton of time.Literally cuts your time
in half.Honestly.To be fair,I like and will use either type.
One more thing,Pre cut decals aren't "really" cut.You
still have to cut around what you need."Around" being the
operative word. With regular decals the entire sheet of
decals are covered with a film which makes it neccessary
to score them. With Pre Cuts, each individual decal is
covered thus eliminating the need to score them. You still
have to cut around them. There's that word again....LOL
I've rambled on enough.
