Default Base weight

Hi,

I received recently my precision scale, to measure the weight of my figures...

My figures are heavy...really heavy. Based on FF.net figures, but heavily re-sculpted, so the weight (not including base!) is quite impressive :

2.60grams for the lighter player (receiver)
3.00grams for the heavier lineman (!)

For example, my heavier lineman + a DDB base weight is about 4.35grams...quite big guy


My lightest receiver on a rookie base weight is about 3.60grams...

So I'll play overweighted regarding the standards I readed here...the questions are :


do you think it will make the game better (faster, stronger) or worst ?

The DDB bases are slightly heavier than the standard miggle bases : what about the Proline ones ?

Do you think I should play only on rookie-style bases to keep the legal 4.0g measurement ?


ANy other advises are welcome...It's too late, I just can't put my team on diet

I say play it like that, especially since you are not playing under any weight limited leagues.

Also, what i think is encouraging, is that your weight disparities (did i use that right???) are likened to (i think) JIMBOS system where the linemen are heavier so they are stronger, and the weights are distributed as such, right down to the weak WR or RB. This way, should a linemen break through, i RB cannot just pick him up and hold him at the point to save the sack. He may hold the block, but he will get driven backward.

THis is exactly how i am running my solitaire guys, with the linemen being slightly heavier than other guys. My men come in at about 4.0, but a few will be over, no more than 4.2 grams or so. I will try to find Jimbos thread on this, and how he distributes the weight. I am almost sure i got this idea from him.

Default It's your league, time and effort

Dimitir,

I say do what makes you happiest. I know you are trying to have a standard and I think some guys are trying to create standards in the hobby so people can play competitively.

However, I say you play the way that makes you happeiest. I use FF.Net figures and some of my players are playing at 6 grams and others at 3 grams. With the type of things that I am trying to do, it makes perfectly sense. So if it makes sense to you, do what makes you happy and want to play. Don;t let yourself be put in a box!!!

Just send us stats and information on games when you play so we can get as pumped up as you do.

Hi Scott, thank you for the answer.

I'm interested in the jimbo weight system too : even if I don't play in league or competition, a little serious theory in our games is something I like to consider

BTW, that weight "problem" is something I like a lot in MF. As a former wargamer, everything in the games I played was ruled by charts, tables, and rulers. In miniature football, everything is directed by the real mother earth good old physics

It's fun to think that I re-sculpted some linemen to make them look stronger, and finally the result of the art work make them REALLY stronger on the field



EDIT : Yes, I believe you're right, Reginald. Since, after all, I'll probably never participate to any US "major" league or tournament, I can do what I like.

But putting standards is interesting too, because who knows ? perhaps one day in France, we'll have enough players around to create interesting tournaments and competitions, and rules will be needed too ! Even if finally the "french format" is not the same (and/or as good as US formats)


But I like the ideas I've readed here from some guys about the game : sometimes quite "mad" ideas, probably not useable "out of box" on the field, or not balanced, but all that new ideas are interesting to "cook" too !

Just play "open" for now, when you start an official League then you could choose a certain weight standard 3.3 , 4.0 what ever.

To answer your qestions on the difference the weight makes in performance of a base. If two bases are tweaked "equal" in strength than the heavier base/figure combo will be stronger.

For speed I have found that the biggest difference is it "settles the base down to be "smoother"

These are just my opinions and what I have found to be the basic differences.

Rushing out of work now, saw a response dimitri but cant read it now, i was just searching Jimbos stuff for what i was talking about and found it, hope it does not conflict with what you said i will read it all when i get home. 2 things from 2 different JIMBO posts real quick, hope this helps.

I made some measurement tonight of figures I created, including a regular TTC base.

Later I'll make real comparaison, for fun and for information (first I'll have to understand your weird US weight measurement system ).


Perhaps the NFL specialist here will dig some interesting info with that measurements :


scorers :
Vernon Davis : 4.04 grams (250lbs = real athlete weight)
Alex smith : 3.98 grams (217lbs)
bruce isaac 3.92 grams (188lbs) (3.49grams on rookie base)
crabtree 3.90 grams (214lbs) (3.47 grams on rookie base)
moran norris 4.01 grams (250lbs)
gore 3.95 grams (217lbs)

line :
heitmann : 4.12 grams (312lbs)
Chilo rachal : 4.20 grams (315lbs)
staley : 4.25 (315lbs)
snyder : 3.88 grams (my lighter player, surprisingly !) (325lbs)
David Baas : 4.20 grams (330lbs)


We can see that the weight comparaison is not perfectly realistic...especially for Snyder (easy to "fix" with a little weight addition) and Isaac ! For the other players, the comparaison results are not so weird or surprising, finally !



EDIT2 : I found a website to convert US to metric :

David Baas weight is about 150 kilograms He's HUGE Davis is about 115kilos, Gore about 100kilos...big men too when we see their speed skills !

Anyway, I guess we can dig a rough rule scheme here : 4.2grams for linemen, 4 grams for "scorers", and even perhaps 3.5-3.6 grams especially for receivers... It will be quite easy to remove or sand really tiny bits of plastic under the figure attached base to be "legal" !


Perhaps we should add another weight category, for defensive line or super heavy players, with a limitation of number ? I don't know...

seen your post... btw awsome looking team... if you really feel the need to stick with the 4.0 standard using ff.net figs customized the way your doing, one tip i can give you is to remove the player from his little platform and replace it with a lite weight stif clear plastic or a playing card... then re-decorate that with grass.
just removing his platform will save you almost a full gram of weight in "dead" plastic.

hope that helps alittle.
