"The forgotten game"
Over the past few years I have enjoyed looking at pictures of the all the old playing fields posted by MFCA members, it's always great to see all the games from years past but it seems to me that one field has had very limited exposure, the Tudor fiberboard 620 from the 60's,
It was the first big board I had ever seen and the players where unlike anything before or since. The game was huge compared to my little field and the players where three dimensional not two sided like my red and yellow guys. I knew there where new figures out there but I never actually had one in my hands until my Mom bought me the "Big Board" for X-Mas.What a thrill it was to set the game up and play my first game...it was like playing in a real stadium. The fiberboard 620 was not Tudors best game however,it had several design problems with the field, the players and the motor. It was soon discontinued and the much improved all metal 620 came out with better players and bases.I bought a new metal 620 but the old fiberboard remained my favorite and still is to this day. I guess it was such a big part of my childhood that all the design flaws where just part of playing on the "Big Board". |
