Default Stats analysis

Everyone likes to play in a style that they consider to be realistic. As such, the stats for the games should match that level of realism. After taking some time off from playing, I had the chance to look back and analyze my last season. I’m always trying to find that perfect balance between offense and defense. Sometimes I think my rules favor the offense too much, and then suddenly I will have a few defensive gems and I think I’m not favoring the offense.

Looking back at my stats, I’m basically satisfied with the results. Individually, they may not look too realistic, but taken as a whole for the entire game, they aren’t too far off. Here’s what I mean.

For the running backs, I had one player run for just over 1,000 yards in 9 games. The top 5 averaged 830 yards, or 92 yards per game. That part is ok. Individually, though, they averaged 11.6, 10.3, 8.3, 7.2, and 13.0 yards per carry. That part is not realistic. Looking at a per play average, they are running about twice the NFL average. But, since I’m running 80 plays per game, which is probably ½ a normal game, the game average equals out, if that makes any sense.

As for the QB’s, the top 5 averaged 1353 yards for 9 games, or 150 per game. This is probably lower than the NFL average, but maybe about average for college??? They ranged from a best of 13 TD’s to 6 INT’s, to a worst of 7 TD’s to 16 INT’s. The ratings went from a best of 111.3 to a low of 59.6 with an overall average of 88.5 I think that’s not too far off from normal.

As for points, the top team had 272 points, which in a 16 game season would be 483 .points, which had happened before in the NFL. The worst team had 217 points, which would be 386 in a 16 game season. Probably higher than normal. I could make some rule changes to lower the points, but I think the higher points are because I use the dice to pick the defense while I pick the offense and can adjust depending on what the defense shows. No doubt if I had to play against another coach, the defenses would have been harder to move the ball against and the scores would not have been as high. I may go to charts for both offense and defense with NO adjustments and just let the guys duke it out, but I don’t know if that would be any better than how I’m playing now.

For those who keep track of their games, how do your stats compare. Are you happy with them overall? What would you like to see instead? Just curious.
