Offensive Line Play
Back in 1996, I introduced lateral base play to members of my league. This was an advancement in the game unheard. In the Shootout rules, this is strategical scheme which plays out well because audibles are allowed in the Shootout system.
This takes away a type of play based solely on power. This definitely brings finesse into the game. When we created O-Linemen, the original stock poses were not created with this in mind. When I began to create custom linemen, who main purpose was to ward off on-rushing linemen and buy extra time for the QB as well as create a wider range of motion for the linemen, it made (at least my team) more diversified in what we could do. Many people will never use this because in their eyes, it leaves many holes open. But under the Shootout rules system, this is the perfect scheme for my "West Coast Offense". On EVERY play, a hole or two is open. I've just got to know the reads and where to go. Study the movement of the athlete. Look at the arm extension as well as how in just this short clip, you can see potentially more than 20 different running plays based on straight zone blocking. Also, at the end of the clip, you will see an actual screen pass play being shown. The only thing I did not do is actually throw the ball. I did allow the D-linemen to come on in but it opened everything up. The defense had no idea where the linemen were going. Tell me what you think about the play. Reginald Rutledge Footballfigures.com |
