Photos from the 2008 Arch City Huddle and MFCA Great Lakes Region Skills Competition
First off...I want to thank Jeff Priest for being such a gracious host for our first Mid-western gathering of four different leagues (Akron EFL, Great Lakes EFL, HHEFL and Mid-Ohio EFL). It was a real pleasure to meet Jeff, Chris Fields, John Martin and Will Shropshire for the first time. These guys are real class acts and made the day fun.
Second, I would like to thank Jim Davis and Steve Martin for making the trek down to play. I would especially like to thank Jim for giving us not one, but two thrilling games that came right down to the final play. He defeated John Martin in the semi-final fame on a long last play field goal. Then trailing 6-0 in the Championship game, he drove the length of the field on his final drive to Chris Field's 9 yard line. On the game's final play he gave the ball to Marcus Allen and attempted a sweep to the right...it was nothing but open space, as his line collapsed that side of the field, but out of no where one of Chris' Saints Defensive Ends got loose and plowed into Marcus just short of the goaline...it was one of those magical miniature football moments...and I got it on film! Once I figure out how to down load it I will send it to you Jim... Third, I must give credit where credit is due...Chris Fields and Dwayne Jennings are "Masters" at their craft. The word "artist" does not fit...they are Masters of sculpting in my book and some of the new figures they are working on took my breath away and were simply awesome. Fourth, the skills competition was great. I had never run one of these things before, but I have to admit...it was fun...even though Will kicked my butt and narrowly defeated me in the passing competition. These types of competition brings out the kid in all of us and I want to thank all who participated in the event. John Martin will be one to watch for at the Canton Convention...he was perfect on the kicking...even with his "Gorilla" kicker (the ball nearly cleared the upright on every kick, but was right down the middle and hit the same place everytime). If you play him, also watch out for a player he calls "hamburger"...he is dominate! And on top of all this fun...my Cowboys played great for me...there I said it Steve! And finally, I just want to say this was simply a very fun afternoon with a bunch of great guys...to me...that is what this hobby is all about after the buzzing stops and the games are over. Enjoy the photos and .....LONG LIVE FOOTBALL!
