finnally ready to recap the MFCA convention & HOF action
Wow, what a wonderful weekend was had by all. I first want to thanks the ourr MFCA Team for finding the right venue for our very first one!!!
It was a great time for me and my Brother, Tony. It has been a long time since he has been on a EF/MF field, but I would tell him about all the time. He finnally got around to making a trip with me. And the fact that it was Pro Football HOF weekend with our Beloved Redskins going in and playing on the field just added to the awesome fun being had. The trip up was so smooth, that I may have to consider it a regular trek in the future. Friday night dinner was cool. I had chance to hang out with all the crazies that I see on the highlights from the NFL games. Kicking it with the Hoggetts (without their masks) was extra cool for me because I had only known them as their alter-egos. Working at the Redskins Stadium (FedEx Field) I see them every home game. They were so surprized to see me there, we had a instand bond beyond anything before. We would see each other most of the weekend. Back to the hotel for some games and other action. Finally got a chance to meet some of the faces to some of the names on our board. Michican Joe, Matt Culp, Matt Wavva, Al Durham, John Martin (special thanks to you), Frank J and Mark Fields, Chris Fields(513) as the new guys to me. And seeing all my friends - Wolf, Adrain B, Will T, Ray, Jimbo, Steve M, D.Jennings, Damin, Al Harvey, Broncoman, Dre', FOTH, Ed, Joe, Jerry M, some their kids, Coach Rip , Spike, Mark K and the others who I cannot remember..... then it was time to start to look at the MFCA contest entries... I tried to stack the deck to get some votes on my stuff - it didn't work nobody got the concept of the M.Vick in solitaire confinment... next start the playing in the challege....lost to Matt W. 3-0 after being in scoring range and coming up empty. some more visiting, some interview with the local paper and discussions carried into the night. I wish that could have made the meeting earlier in the day. Sat was all about MY REDSKINS as my 2 favorite players of my era was being inducted later this day. Art Monk and Darrell Green! E.Thomas gets love also because he coached them BOTH. The others going in get love also because I enjoyed them as well. We got up and get in a few more games before the United Way was about to start. I would made that, but my Brother had never been to the HOF so I had to get him over there. I will tell you guys, Tony was like a kid in a candy store! He is a man that loves facts and figures and historian of sorts...especially when it comes to football. He was right at home. We had a good spot to park and as I turned the corner to begin our mission into the HALL - what do I see but 2 of my favorite Guest from FedEx that actually sits in my section!! I was off and running...walked over and hit them with my oipening lines from back home and when they turned around to see me..well it was nothing but joy and laughter as we discussed the likelyhood of seeing each other here at the hall. I would experience so much of this type of thing all weekend. So many of my friends from the games were in the croud that I felt like I was back at the stadium!!!!! So pass a few more fans as we get to the entrance...one of the guys who cover local sports back in DC was right there and Tony went over to talk to him, photo shots, etc. We get into the Hall and we make the tour, but Tony has a record from the 1972-1973 Redskins season with him. We actually get a chance to talk withthe guys from the Hall - Very Cool. We get to discuss how stuff gets in, where it all goes when not being displayed. It was great!! The Hall only displays about 5-7% of all the stuff they have. They also told us that the Miniature/Electric football display from when miggle was there, only stayed in the Hall up until the start of that next season. Instead of going back to the hotel then coming back for the enshrinement, we decided to hang around and check out the sites. As we worked around the Hall, we walked up the back street that lead to the stadium. Little did we know that the back street would be were we would spend most of the time on Sunday...later for that story. We walked over to the fence and looked down on the stadium to see where we would be sitting in a few hours. it's a small place, very "up close and personnel" venue to see a game. We work our way back to the front of the Hall and here comes Cheif Zee - you all know him from the SB highlight reel ... he see me and he too is excited that we both are there. we have some story-time before the masses start in on him ... I get a chance to get on the local TV News back home (again) and now it's getting close to time to get into the stadium and take our seats for the Big Show. As we move thru, I see more of my folks from home and we share some good stories, I tell them about why and how I made it there..blah,blah, blah... and it's almost time. Now I have the PFUFA access hanging from my neck with HOF redskins on one side and other favorite redskins on the other painted in the 75 aniversary uniforms. Well, some chick want one, then 2, then 3 of them (Art, Darrell, and Charley Taylor). so we get to our seats..MAN THEY WERE THE BEST!!! if somewhere else in the place it might not have been fun. This was great! Being a real fan of the NFL, I only dreamed of ever going to the HOF to watch this happen. I took lots of these pictures as you see later. Some of the highlights were Fred Dean - very cool guy and was funny.... .... sorry cowboy fans, it was a redskins' day so any of their players (and it was a few of them) was booed by the crowd. I thought it was the funniest thing...M.Irvin was booed from the moment someone saw him leave the tunnel to when finally sat down. Tippett was on all of Patriot teams from the era. Always had a E.Thomas on those early Chiefs in white with red pants... Darrell was first between he and Art to get up. By the time he was finished, I was so fired up ... Then when it was finally Art's turn ..... well it was about 5 minutes of standing ovation for him before he could talk. Almost brought me to tears... We left there and headed back to the hotel and played more games, jumped into the passing contest because it missed it all day. Damin was hovering around to make sure I missed so he could win watched some games, played some games.. etc Turned around and did the same thing Sunday morning until it was time to go to what I thought was John Martin's house but it was one of his people - Mr. Dan .. .. thanks again for hosting us at your place. made me feel like home! we sat back and smoked cigars and had cold ones all afternoon, rating all the talent that went by. quite a few 1st rounders... we were on the block where I was most of Sat - but this time it was better. As folks started to make their way, here comes the Hoggettes and I get them to stop by for a few shots. then there was "Bone Lady" - cleveland browns and she was great. Then Chief Zee comes by for some pictures and laughs ..............man this is getting long........ hanging out with these guys this weekend was something that I will never forget. Talk about tailgating.............we were the stars of the party Thanks again for everthing John and Dan and the other guy who's name i have forgotten... Then it's game time....that's when my camera's battery started to die. After the game, we comeback for mare rap and my Brother starts laying down the history knowledge.....blowing guys away with dates and facts, etc. we more laughs and stuff....man what a weekend!!!!! I can hardly wait for next year............ |
