True Fellowship
Two weeks ago, I got a rare opportunity to spend some time with a few of my old childhood / Ef friends. I knew Glenn Phoenix since 1979, when we used to play EF on my parents front step. I met Ernie Grice shortly afterwards. I was actually a classmate of
Albert (Al) Harvey in the 6th grade!! I haven’t been on the “field” competitively in 4 years and with family responsibilities , I haven’t been around the fellas for quite some time. We were all brought together for a road trip via Don Smith, also a dear friend who happened to be spending time with his uncle Steven in Maryland over the thanksgiving holiday. This was a great reunion for me with my old Jersey crew and the treat to have some fellowship with our friend Don!!! The fellas departed form Jersey, grabbed me in Delaware and we were off. The one hour ride seemed like 15 minutes as we laughed, at some points till we had tears in our eyes and talked Ef. We arrived at Uncle Stevens’s house and instantly we knew Uncle Steven was a class act, he welcomed us in and made us feel welcome instantly. He called up to Don to let him know we arrived. It was good seeing Don, we did not see him since the Seawall Brawl. We sat at the table and talked about family, our children and just life in general. It was 3 hours before we “broke out” a field!!
Needless to say we shared a lot of info at that magic table, strategy, painting, tweaking, pizza , a few beers and fantastic cigars!! I’ll tell you this, I got home at 11pm and my board was “on and poppin’….” I had to incorporate some of the principles I learned that afternoon. That was truly a great day and we are looking forward to getting back to Maryland with Uncle Steven and Don the next time Don is in town!!!!
