Alternate MCFA League Idea

We have two ideas on the table. Both ideas have merit.
My concerns with the tourney proposal is that a number of our MFCA members would not benefit from the tourney proposal. The tourney proposal does encourage more involvement in tourneys but not all members can (wether they want to or not) attend more than 1 tourney thus making this a heavy hitters type league. I would prefer that all MFCA members have an equal chance to participate regardless of their ability to attend tourneys. The MFCA is here to encourage tourneys but it is also here to support leagues.

By limiting the rankings to just tourneys, we suddenly take our 200 members who have a real chance of winning this down to 15 to 20 members.

I personally would prefer a system that gives all MFCA members an equal chance to make it to the big game plus more incentive for coaches to join the MFCA and attend the MFCA Convention. The tourney proposal, in my opinion does not encourage new membership for the MFCA.

My other concern is with the; drawing a rule set out of a hat. I do not believe that this can succeed based on past experiences. I feel that the final game should honor where all rules sets evolved from. The Tudor rules in an updated faster paced format.

No disrespect to Tom's idea intended. We have talked about this by phone but I must present the options for discussion and my concerns. I am very open to ideas on either proposal and think that it is important for the future.


MFCA League 1 proposal (revised per thread discussion)
Each MFCA Member is automatically a member of the league.

The first regular season starts August 10, 2009 and ends July 4, 2010.

Each MFCA coach may play up to a maximum of 8 games, each with a different opponent. Both coaches in a game must be MFCA paid members at the time of the game.

You may play with ANY rule set that is currently in use. League games and tournament games that you already play in, can be counted. Non league or non tournament additional games may be scheduled with an email approval from the MFCA.

No tournament seeding games (unless played as a full 4 quarter game) or shortened version games are counted.

Arena games, because of their unusually high scores and solitaire games are not counted.

Tap outs are not allowed. A coach tapping out at any point in the game receives no points for that game.

Both MFCA coaches must agree before the game begins that the game to be played will be counted as a MFCA National League game.

At the end of the game, an online form with the results from the game will be submitted to the MFCA statistician.

Points are awarded as follows.
20 points for a win + points scored (maximum of 40 (?) points scored)
0 points for a loss + points scored (maximum of 30 (?) points scored)
At the end of the season, you will get an additional 10 points for every win any opponent you have beaten gets.

For example:
Coach A beats Coach B 21-7
Coach A gets 21 + 20 for a total of 41 points
Coach B gets 7 points
Coach B goes on to win 6 more games against other opponents. At the end of the season, Coach A gets an additional 10 points per each of Coach B’s wins added to his end of the regular season total. In this case, 60 points would be added to Coach A’s end of the season total.
After July 4, 2010 the season will be over and points will be totaled. The MFCA coach with the highest points will be awarded as the regular season champion.

At the 2010 MFCA Conventions Coaches Points Challenge Tournament, all MFCA coaches, based on their point totals for the regular season will be awarded “seeding” points. 1st 100 points, 2nd 95 points, 3rd 90 points, etc. (These point totals may vary based on the number of participants but an amount of 5 points will separate each seeding.) On Sunday morning at 11:00 at the 2010 convention the top two point total getters during the Convention tournament will be announced and they will meet in a head to head MFCA National Championship Game. The rule set will be an updated version of the Tudor rules as approved by the MFCA membership but will reflect the foundation of rules from which all current rule sets evolved.
The two coaches in the championship game will receive trophies and cash prizes to be determined.
