Default New in this hobby, a french guy presentation

Hi,

First, I'll introduce myself, since I didn't find a presentation topic

I'm Dimitri, 30years old, a french guy living in...France. I've been in modelling and miniatures for more than 10 years, and today, it's a part of my job (freelance designer).

I started with wargames and miniatures fantasy games, then went to static dioramas, then to slot racing (mostly h0 scale). I love ALL types of tabletop gaming and simulations, vintage video gaming (80's computers, video games and arcade games).

I 'm very interested in american popular culture too, and I like to discover new things that are not common here in France (I hate soccer )

These days, I was looking on the internet for tabletop US sports simulations, since I liked to see US sports on satelite and cable tv in the past (US football, mostly). I guess I'm one of the rare french guys who barely understand the rules of Football and baseball (even if a LOT of things stills difficult to understand for me)

In France, we can see "NFL game day" show on each saturday (I love this show, really dramatic, informative and well designed. I don't know if it 's a show dedicated to foreign countries or if it exists in USA, BTW), and we can see the Superbowl too in direct live. On pay per view channels, the NFL season is available too, but for now it's too expensive for me.

So, searching for informations on possible tabletop sport simulation, I discovered table hockey (I'm ordering a Stiga competition table), and one link to another, discovered electric football. Instantly, I was very curious about this game, and wanted to know how it worked.

I went on youtube, to see EF leagues gaming. I was impressed by the approach and philosophy of this game. The coach prepares tactics, give orders, and then....the team make the move. Impredictable, strategic, real physics action : like the real thing.

Digging for more infos, I discovered some great talents in modelism too : teams repaints and customs, home made game boards, miniatures stadiums...everything I like in table top gaming hobby (quite the same in slot racing : one side : the sport, the other side : the bench modelling and tuning).

Since my brother and I are quite suficiently aware of football to understand the rules, I decided to find a game board really fast !

So, I went on ebay....very expensive, and a lot of people doesn't want to ship such big parcels to my country (or for expensive -but normal- shipping amount).

I saw that new games were available in Miggle Tudor website : Fisrt I was thinking of a Rose Bowl medium size game, but making some calculations (including shipping), I discovered that I'd rather make my own game board, since I like woodcrafting too.

Now, I have a lot of questions, and a lot of informations to discover. Thanks for reading, regards

Dimitri

edit : perhaps I should have post this in the tailgate section
