Notre Dame Ramblers

Well, tonight if all goes well, I am planning on starting the construction of my 1924 notre dame team. I'm using those excalibur figures. Does anyone out there have any tips to maybe make the excalibur helmets look more like old school helmets, or to make the extra padding at the tops of the pants like they did in the olden days?
