Thumbs up Vikings Advance To NFC Championship Game

Adrian Peterson's 14 yd TD run with just over 4:00 to go helped seal a 21-16 victory over Tampa Bay and earn the Vikings a spot in the NFC Championship Game vs the LA Rams. Tampa Bay scored first on a 47 yd run by Cadillac Williams in the 1st quarter. Minnesota tied the game in the 2nd quarter on a 75 yard punt return by Darius Raynard. Tampa Bay kicker Conner Barth hit a 31 yd FG just before the half giving the Bucs a 10-7 halftime lead. Minnesota opened the 3rd quarter with an 8 minute 80 yard drive to take the lead on a 3 yard run by Percy Harvin and at the end of 3 the Vikes had a 14-10 lead. The big play of the game came midway in the 4th quarter when the Vikings Antoine Winfield picked off a Josh Freeman pass and returned it 35 yards to the Bucs 38. From there Minnesota moved the ball to the Tampa Bay 14 where Peterson then scored on his 14 yd. sprint to the endzone and put Minnesota up 21-10. Tampa Bay took the kickoff and drove the ball all the way to the Vikings 11 yd line but burned up all its timeouts doing so. Freeman hit Reggie Brown on an 11yd pass to make it 21-16. The Buucs went for 2 hoping to cut the Vikings lead to 3 and hopefully get an onnsides kick but failed. The onsides kick also failed and the Vikings ran out the clock for the 21-16 victory. It has been 26 seasons since the Vikings went to a Super Bowl and will have an oppurtunity to go if they can beat the Rams in LA.
Buffalo and Kansas City will play for the AFC title and the two winners will meet in Super Bowl 47 in New Orleans.

Thats it for now from the Dogwood Mini-Football League.

I think they can get by the Rams but if they meet Buffalo in the Super Bowl it will be a tough challenge.
