The Collections Page is a Love Hate Thing For Me, but...
I thank guys like Ravenmaniac, and especially his wife, Gwen, for chastising me about wanting to pull the plug on that page! Every once in a while, I will hear from someone speaking of how the page has inspired them to create or do things.
Every once in a while, I get so frustrated because, let's face it, I know I've given away so much "privy" information. If it's on here, it becomes public. I get that. One time somebody made a smart-A remark speaking about just that. It always stuck with me, you know, about sharing knowledge and ideas and getting nothing in return. Essentially, he told me I was the fool for doing that. This person went on to make decals for a minute, rip people off, and leave the site. The irony of it was that I am still here giving up information that people can use. Some of this information will go or better yet, be transferred to Footballfigure.net but we definitely do appreciate those who tell us via email, pm, or even on here, how they like the thread. Sometimes, when I go back from page 1, I am amazed how much information there is but most importantly, how much information I gave away. Reg |

First , Hello my friend,Been awhile.
Secondly.... Dont think of what you have done as "giving away" anything, I think it was more of an "investment to the future" that you gave to all who would listen and learn, and for that i want to thank you !! Now i know also that people have burned you in the past/present, and prob in the future too, But i also remember a 37 year old man sitting in a hotel room with someone he never had met before, and being treated like a family member and shown a whole new world of posibilties, without a second thought, or any pre concieved "i will show him this then make him buy everything else" kinda thing. It must be hard to be you sometimes as you have given and given with what appears to be nothing in return, but believe me, there are more people that you have touched then you know, And i for one know that everything i have been able to do with this hobby as far as creation goes has its roots burried deep in that hotel room, and the un wavering kindness of a then stranger Thank you for what you do...it is appreciated.

You are Awesome
In the Web based marketing world you need to give some valuable content away to keep people coming back and interested in what you have to say.
the content that you are 'giving away' requires the product that you are selling. in essence that whole thread is an advertisement. Keep showing your stuff and keep yourself as the bench mark of customization and versatility. if you talk to anybody about web strategy you will be advised to 'give away' some content. keep doing what you are doing. I will be buying some ff.net guys BECAUSE of your free content and what you have shared. thanks so much for all you do |

Think of it as help
I know it is frustrating when people cash in on your ideas, but that is just part of what happens when you are an innovator.
In the art world, innovation is the key to success. Because of that people are always trying to come up with the next big thing, and many people are watching to see what that is, and then beat the rest to the market. However, it is those who consistently produce quality who are truly successful. Two things on this that I have learned: When I share ideas they are a gift. If I want to keep them for myself then I keep them in my pocket. Second, if you make something true to yourself then no one can take that away from you. If you are making something with a conviction, then that passion cannot be duplicated. Sure, they can copy your method, but not your passion. If they share that passion, then the connection goes way beyond any potential gain either might get. Just keep doing what you do, and focus on those that share your passion. Like you said, the ones that take usually don't last very long. |
