Default Gameday Experience in the DFWEFL

Well, new league, new experience, new competition and an eye opener. Yesterday I made a trek down to Dallas to finally meet Reginald Rutledge and the DFWEFL gang, better known as the peanut gallery. The stars were out in Dallas to see Mike Robertson against Robert 'RJ' Jackson. Pep, Earn-Rob, Oscar, Lil Oscar, Hud, RR, and the wonderful Rutledge family. A game in which two former champs was both looking forward too. It all started with a pre-game meal at Cracker and Barrel Restaurant. The pre-game meal covered a bunch of topics in which brought laughter and some real statements. After getting the grub on and down, we received a call from the first referee to show at up for the showdown.

We left the restaurant bill in the hands of the lovely Rose Rutledge, who if anyone has met Mrs. Rutledge would say the same. A wonderful, warm and funny person I must say. Hold up let me say this first, when I first got to Reggie house I was unsure of the address so I rang the doorbell and said is Reggie or Mike here and by never seeing Mrs. Rutledge before she kindly said, "You have the wrong house". Immediately I begin to say wow!! Then she broke out in a laugh and said I am just kidding come on in. I fell out laughing!! From then I knew this would be like no other experience. When entering the monument of the MF, which hold up means "Miniature Football", I know what you all were thinking that's why I had to clear that up. I seen the Wrigley Field creation first hand and all I can say is unbelievable!!! Then you continue to walk around the Hall of Fields and just say wow!!!

Okay back to the game. After we had the sod taking care of the coin toss came in which I elected to defer to the 2nd half. Mike Robertson took the ball and it was on and cracking. After about 3 or 4 plays Mike Robertson scored and I was like wow!!! Kickoff came and we had a decent return to about the 34 yard line. 1st play from scrimmage Jim Brown went off right tackle for a 66 yard touchdown it was knotted up at 7 a piece. That was a close I as would get Mike Robertson opened the air assault and torched the secondary. Bad defensive sets killed the Browns. Trying to play the way I did in the LAEFL will not work in this league. Man Mike Robertson is a pin point passer and echoes around the house is that isn’t the best!!! That s@#t scared the $$$$ out of me!!!! The final score of the game was 35-13 Bengal’s. After the humbling ********** whooping I so graciously took, Reggie looked at me with those prophet like eyes and said RJ you will be alright my son everyone gets an ********** whooping around here, don’t feel bad!!! I took those words to heart and said Reg I know what I have to do next time.

In this league you have to have safety’s and you must, I say you must have a pass rush, if you don’t you will continue to get your head handed to you. Folks if you want to get in a league that has some quality coaches and gives that fellowshipping mentality this is one you have to look at.

Reggie man from the bottom of my heart to the top of my dome bro, I LOVE YOU man and thanks again for letting me into such a prestigious league. See you in a couple of weeks. To my other DFWEFL brother’s, man I can’t wait to get down there for a whole weekend and hang out wit ya’ll. Peace!!!!

Thumbs up Gameday DFW-style...

RJ,

Thank you for sharing your experience at Reggie's home. I too can't wait to get down to Texas and fellowship with Reg, Rose, and the kids. They are a wonderful family and Rosemary is definitely the glue that holds the Rutledge family together.

So you got to meet the peanut gallery, huh? I've heard a lot about those guys... all of it good. They seem to be a great group of guys. I hope to meet them at the Texas Shootout, and would be honored to be heckled by them. I can't wait to meet Mike as well. He's a bright spot in our community.

So how was the tour at Casa de Rutledge? Seeing all the goodies in Reggie's world prolly made your eyes blush. Did you take any pix??? If not... make sure you take a camera with you next time.

Take care bro and thanks again for sharing!

- Don

Default Great recap RJ

That's the DFW for ya! I'm with Reg, don't feel bad about that game. Mike is no chopped liver. He don't miss. Did the clock bother you??? How was the peanut gallery, were they on your case? I'm coming out for the Super Bowl weekend, so maybe I will hook up with you then.

Default The Pleasure Was Definitely All Ours

RJ,

It's like you and I have been friends all our lives so I knew it would be easy. The guys here really were glad to see you as many came out on a holiday to watch you and MRob play.

I felt bad on you leaving out that night headed back to Spring, Texas. You are always welcome to bunk at my house.

As for Rose, thanks for the comments on my girl. Like Old School said, she is no doubt the glue in this family and in my miniature football family as well. Guys know they can come to Rose's house and get a good meal and play some miniature football whenever they want. And once you really start hanging around Rose, you'll ask yourself "Why in the heck is she lowering her standards for a bum like Reg?" She is without a doubt the one person who constantly motivates and push me. And thanks about the kind words of my kids. They were just putting on an act for you.

As for the league, sometimes seeing is believing. What Al told you about the fellowship is true. These guys come from all walks of life but because we enjoy the game so much, being around each other is easy. You did not see the entire "Peanut Gallery" in full effect. It's about 30 coaches who heckle each other during the course of a game. As you saw, we "ribbed" MRob as we did you. We're just trying to get you ready for that championship run.

You played one of the Hall of Fame coaches in the DFW. Your performance was very good. Nothing to be ashamed of in the least! You were from the game for 2 years so obviously, there will be some rust. However, it is obvious you have championship heart and that will take you a long way.

Yes, in this league, the competition is very good. Everyone runs different schemes which will give you a variety of looks as you make a run for the playoffs. We expect you to be a part of the DFW for many years to come and recruit from the Houston area to make for a separate division down yonder!

So welcome RJ to the DFW and we look forward to you being a part of the Peanut Gallery and taking your place among the league's elite.

Reg

Default Oh yeah....

...Thanks fellas. Corey yeah the clock bothered me slightly. I am used to the clock in the LAEFL but the way they run the clock is a tad bit faster then I am used to. RD and I are going to scrimmage a lil bit this weekend, so I will definitely bring out the set-up clocks. Yeah rusty I was after two years.

Don Mike Robertson is the real deal man and like you said a bright spot in the community. I would love to see him and my nephew lil oldschool get down. GET YO POPCORN READY FOR THAT ONE!!! Mike has already said he wanted to get down to the brawl this year!!!! Give me about 5 games, RJ will be back!!!

Mike,

We would love to have you here in Tidewater, but if for some reason you couldn't make it... don't sweat it. We try to roll out the red carpet for everybody, and are always appreciative of those that choose to fellowship with us. If we don't see you at the Brawl, I hope to meet you in person at the Texas Shootout.

Peace,

Don Smith

Default Sample of DFW Site

RJ,

Whew, I am so happy you came aboard. Trying to wear a thousand hats is one of the toughest things to do in a league. Being the website manager is one of the toughest jobs anyone could ask for and I definitely appreciate your willingness to take the lead role in this endeavor. I am hyped up about the possibilities.

This is where we were going with this site. The images I will get to you.
