Default Greatest Quarterback of All time

In the aftermath of Brett Favre retiring, the big question has been who is the greatest QB of all time?

My top 5 would be:
Joe Montana
Brett Favre
Johnny U
Terry Bradshaw (also most underated)
Bart Starr

there is no greatest QB of all time.
But Favres history at the position, spans a larger spectrum then most of the rest of them.
pure nimbers wise, he is a definite topper.

Default .

Dan Marino - never had a running game or defense to win Superbowl
Joe Montana, Brett Favre, too many others to make a 4 and 5

Default None Greater than...

Johnny Unitas. I only got to see him in the 70's and by that time, he was shell of himself.

Unitas is why the NFL is on your broadcast TV today. Without his heroics, the NFL would not be what it is.

Drafted in the 27th round, this Pennsylvania native was the NFL calling card for 3 decades.

He once held every major record in the game. With the 16 game schedule coming into play, much of his stats were overtaken by other outstanding QBs. But for shear excitement and a will to win, there is none other than the man in the black high top cleats.

In my opinion, Tom Brady doesnt even come close.
Sure, he has alot of numbers, but he has done it in a watered down free agency parity era where teams are lacking in long term practiced cohesiveness.I am not saying he isnt exceptional/good. He just happens to be in the right system at the right time - much like Aikman.

Whats wrong with that, its not his fault that he is with a great team even though I am a dolphin fan true and blue, got to give the man his deserved credit.

Default Without a doubt

1. Tom Brady
2. Johnny Unitas
3. Joe "Big Sky" Montana
4. Brett Farve
5. Roger Staubach

Dan Marino didn't have a running game because they were throwing too much. Eventually that's all they drafted for.

John Elway is probably more talented than all of my top five. He just screwed up in too many big games to put him ahead of those guys.

Norm Van Brocklin was a beast, as was Y.A. Tittle. Joe had a gun attached to his arm but I'll take any of those guys over him.

Bart Starr should be near the top five. Just my thoughts.

Default Top guns

I agree that there is no top QB of all time BUT my top 5 are:

Joe Montana: 4-0 in Super Bowls. QB of the 80's
Terry Bradshaw: 4-0 in Super Bowls. QB of the 70's
Tom Brady: 3-1 in Super Bowls
Roger Staubach: A winner. Would be QB of the 70's if not for Bradshaw
John Elway: More come back wins then anybody. Carried team for many years.

Let the debate continue...
