Default Favre selfish

I respect your opinion too, but at the very least, Favre was selfish and childish about this whole thing. The way the media fawns over this average quarterback is sickening. No one would care, but the media tries to force us to care about Favre. The league went on without Marino, Elway, and Montana--the media makes Favre out to be bigger than the league--which is ridiculous, given the fact that he is not even in the same group with the guys mentioned above. Most int's in the history of the league--to me that will always be his legacy.

It is the OWNERSHIP of those teams that holds the fate of those QBS.

All Brett did was say he wanted to play football and he wanted to be, or have the chance to be, the starter.

While I think he has acted a bit "like a kid" when it comes to his handling of the "I'm retired...no wait, I am not retired" situation, I am not all that surprised by it because in a lot of ways that's the same way he plays the game...like a kid.

I guess you have to take the good with the bad when it comes to the players, and I would rather see him play than not.

I sort of agree with you on this...but not so much about being selfish as about the way the media and the league plays up certain players. Now, if you are saying he is selfish because he should realize that he is "big news" and he affects other people...then it's tough to argue with that.

But most of the time they do this (media and NFL) because of the excitement the player brings to the game.

Favre is a crap shoot QB...you never know what he will do...so he creates interest in the league and as was pointed out earlier, this means $$$.

Look at Michael Vick before the whole dog fighting mess. Vick is/was a once in a lifetime player who brought the fans out of their seats on each play. He was probably just an average throwing QB, but people PAID to see him play because on any play, anything seemed possible. He brought a certain excitement to the game. ESPN couldn't talk about him enough (again, I mention this was even before all of the legal drama).

I think Favre still does that.

Those other QB's you mentioned were really cooked by the time they retired...(except for maybe Elway). Favre SEEMS to have something left that might be worth watching for 1 or 2 more years.

Should check out his stats. SuperBowl wins (Marino=none). TD passes, Passing yards, Consecutive starts!!!!

C'mon - 49ers since Montano?? Dolphins (one of my favorite teams) since Marino??, Broncos with the genius coach of the running game since Elway - who btw acted like a baby on his way into the league refusing to play if drafted by the Colts - or little Manning for that matter with the whole San Diego thing.

That is why the QB position in football is the most important position in ANY sport and why these guys are glorified.

Just wanted to quote you saying Favre is a average Quarterback.
I could care less about this whole situation, pro - football has become about money. I wish the NFL could go back to my favorite time period of the 70's with the muddy fields and games being played outside. I would love to see a game played outside in the old Metropolitan Stadium ! That was football.

The worst thing about this entire situation is the NFL channel was going to show the 1975 Cowboys vs. Vikings playoff game , but did not show it . They chose to cover the trade instead .
