Hi Ben,

Greetings to you my friend. I hope you are doing well.

Yes we have established a way to do onside kicks in our league. This is how it is done. The coach of the kicking team must first say onside kick. Then he will put down a ball or a magnetic ball ten yards from where the kickoff took place. For example if he kicks from his 35 yard line then he will place the ball somewhere along his own 45 yard line. The receiving team lines up on there own 45 yard line meaning BOTH teams will have to go 10 yards to the ball. Both teams can pivot players to the ball however the receiving team CANNOT physically pick up players and put them on the 45 yard line. In other words if the receiving has five players on there 45 yard line before the kick they can't physically pick up put additional players on the 45 yard line when the kicking team states there intention to do an onside kick. The first team to touch the ball makes the recovery. If players on the kicking and receiving team touch the ball at the same time then the ball goes to the receiving team. Also you can only do an onside kick either to start the game, in the 4th quarter and you are behind by at least 10 points, or if you are behind in the 4th quarter and there are five minutes or less to play in the game. I know the explanation was lengthy but hopefully it is clear. One other thing and that is if all of the players on the kicking team run past the ball without touching it and the five players or more who are blockers on the receiving team run past the ball without touching it then the ball goes to the receiving team. It would be like an onside kick in real football being kicked out of bounds.

Have a good day and feel free to ask if you need additional explanation about our onside kicks.

Default Hey!

Has anyone tried using Geno's TDK for onside kicks? There was an article in the latest Tweak that spoke of how it was great at different types of kicks...including onside kicks.
