Do any leagues or Tournaments ever us this method of tackling?

I use front of base tackling for my solitaire play. Front of base tackling is an offense oriented style of play because the ball carrier is allowed to continue to run although a defensive man’s base other than the front of the base is making contact. This style of tackling also exposes the base accuracy of the defensive players. If the bases on the defense aren’t properly trained, they will miss the ball carrier allowing him to run for big yards. A well trained defense can be aimed to make solid front of base tackles.

We use FOB (Front Of Base) tackles on Runs within the first 10 yards. Afterwhich, the defense may elect to stop the board to Read-N-React and it then is just ABC (Any Base Contact).

in the Harrisburg BuzzBall Leagues we employ FOB tackling only for running backs on running plays.

It does a couple of things. If you are playing on a smaller board like a standard 600 series like the popular 620, it will help the offense with the run and increase the chances of moving the ball down the field. If playing on anything smaller I think it's essential to use FOB.

I have also noticed that it creates a more balanced play calling.

Previously using ABC, most guys were passing every play.

The down side I see with FOB is the potential of debate of whether or not contact was made with the front corner or side.

On larger boards like the BuzzBall Pd-2520, or McGhee monster board, I think ABC is the way to go as the "D" has too much ground to cover.

Also the Mid Ohio plays front of the base for first ten yards and then any touch.

In Beltsville Maryland the BEFL use FOB tackling in league play and also in a Tournament that they Host.....

Nick and I use FOB tackling in our house league. We love it.

In fact this year we are adding some of the Shoot Out style rules and a time game clock for our next season starting up after the first of the year!

as Mozeek pointed out, we play FOB here in Beltsville, MD in the Original BEFL.

FOB makes for more offense because the defense HAS to make a play, not just "vibe-by"

you can actually create running lanes and use more of your imagination because again the defense has to make a tackle........

I am going to bring this up for our league next season. I like the idea of this method of tackling for running plays. Since RBs break many tackles at the line of scrimage in real time. This would simulate that! Again, thanks for your reply!
