Default Awesome work!

Way to bring in figure painting techs into the hobby. With some practice,we all can learn to paint this way(maybe not as good ha ha).You need to know about washing, dry brushing, color highlights ect. These are some of the best figs I have ever seen.I have been looking at sites that discuss these techniques. You are a true artist--Keep it up--STT

Just fantastic. Looks like the next paint contest is going to come down to a very few.

Default Much Thanks!

Thanks for your support! I really do appreciate it. Is Chris Fields "5-13 Studios"? If so, I do like his work alot. Also, I worked from specific photos and all of the players were made as close to the colors in the photo as possible. I must admit that I worked out my three colors for caucasian skin years ago while doing Napoleonic miniatures, but I don't use a certain set of colors for darker skin tones. I try to determine what tone the skin has for each person and then adjust the shadows and highlights acordingly. If you look close I used three different tones for Hayes, Page, and Brown. Hayes I added a buff, Page I added a yellowish brown, and on Jim Brown I added an orangebrown. I made Jim's skin a little lighter than the jersey like the photos. I thought it was pretty accurate. As for the figures, I used Haiti repros with a few parts of the arms sculpted from scratch. I realized this morning that I didn't take a pic showing the arm on Jim brown that I sculpted. I will have to take a pic and add it later.
As for painting like me, I think everyone can learn this style of painting, but I think it is a bit extreme for actually playing with. I am now reluctant to let my kids touch my Chiefs. I have several teams that are somewhere between this detail and the manufactured look, and I think they are the best balance. Also, no one should hesitate to post thier work on here. We are all in this because of our love of the hobby and football. It is just that I have been painting miniatures for 30+ years. I am going to do a post later that shows how my painting of MF figures progressed over the past two years. I think that will help everyone see different levels of painting the figures. I was just trying to make these at the highest standard that I could. I want you all to be inspired , not intimidated!
Thanks again, Michael

Default Paints.?

What type of paints do you use acryllic,oil,ect...I am trying to learn how to paint historic type figs ,civil war, revo, war, ect in the style you use.i wish there was a class, but I have been surfing the net and getting books.Being a social studies teacher,I am naturally drawn to it.I do alot of custom mcfarlanes, and i have thought about these techniques for them. You can check them out under my posts and LMK how these techs, might fit in?I am always looking to up my game so to speak.Love to see more of your work--STT

Thanks for Sharing your work with us!!!! Truly makes me want to learn how to stroke it like that. You have works of art, not just custom figures. The details are too numerous to mention, but a joy to see on this level!!!!

let me know where and when classes will begin, I want to be able to paint like that!!
