Default Game and Hobby

I think we had this exact same question posed a short while back.

I would fundamentally call "electric football" a GAME, like chess, checkers, or any other kind of table top game. Yet with all that goes into the game (painting, customized figures, tweaking bases, board making, stadiums, etc)...I call that a HOBBY.

Default Sport or Hobby

It's a hobby to me because it's way more than just competition! If all you do in the hooby is compete, than it's a sport to you. If you do more than compete, ie. tweek, paint, create, etc., than it's a hobby!

As per the (dictionary) definition of sport....

1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
2. a particular form of this, esp. in the out of doors.

So, the answer to your question is simple. MF is a hobby and yet another form of table top gaming. Warhammer, Battletech, Risk, etc., all fall under the same category. MF is not a sport. Nor is Electric Baseball. Rod Hockey, Air Hockey, Foosball and the like are quite a bit closer to the "sport" category but are still not considered as sports. They do require some sort of skill and "physical prowess", however slight on the physical part, that MF lacks.

MF = Table Top Gaming & Hobby.

Default Familiar?

Mike is right, this is a HOBBY! I love it as much as the next guy but it is what it is. On the other hand, it's a free country so you can call it what you want.

(Didn't we have this conversation earlier this year?)

Peace ~

it is a sports-hobby.

now if you play in my new tournament (name forth-coming) where there will be no chairs..... you play on your feet for timed 1 hour 30mins first half with a 2 min period.... get a 15 min break.... play the 2nd half same as the first.

this way, you are in the game, your QB will be tired when going to pass the ball.... mental mistakes will happen when you are tired....etc.

in interest??

Thumbs up It is a hobby that has manifested into a "Sportobby" or a "Hobbort"

..for me it was a hobby as a child, it went hand in hand with racing slot cars. Now it is indeed a hobby when I am collecting teams and trading for EF stuff. The sport aspect manifested when I begun to join leagues and play competitively. The hobby aspect is what I do when not in competition....tweak, build team, boards...etc. The sport is what drives me to travel and fellowship with fellow EF coaches. The hobby aspect is when we tweak, trade bases, sell EF items etc....
