Default weirdwolf not so fast.......

I hate to tell you this but I'm the one that started the custom large fields back in 1989 in my apartment in Inglewood Ca. I went to a metal shop in Inglewood and had them build it to my scale. Two years later I met Bill Porche and that's when Bill and I created the MONSTER BOARDS, which is now called FIELD OF DREAMS. So it started way before Jerry Mcgee and this can be verified through Bill Porche, Cleon Tate (rasta) and my friend Brian Pointer in Lansing , Mi whom I sent the first monster board to, it was a 1968 New York Jets snow covered hand painted custom monster board. Brian Pointer is a child hood friend of mine. The New York Jets are the team I used to win Reggies first Texas Shootout with, this was their home field. Cleon Tate played on it in our original los angeles league back in 1992.

Thanks

This is exactly why I asked the question? I know Matt Miller showed me a newspaper article of him and his dad building a big field back in 1980. For me, the first time I ever knew about custom boards was the online site that Jerry had up for some time.

This may be one of those categories where we add a timeline to it and put in some history. I think the info provided by everybody will be very helpful in preserving some of the history of the hobby and how it has evolved.

Keep em coming!

Default LOL!

Let the bickering begin.

Vance Warren was the first to do the stick system. George and I revised it back in 2000 for the FIRST Harrisburg Buzzball League. We were not the ones to invent it though. That came from Vance and R2K (Rules 2000).

So I'm the FIRST to NOT take credit for something.

So who developed the ATTAC passing? That is relatively recent history.

Jim you are so right, Larry Walker was doing this way back in 1990 when I met him at a sports bar in Pasadena Ca. This is where the original LAEFL ORIGINATED from, Al Clegg, Derek Lewis, Rasta, Larry Walker, Ritchie Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Brian Knauls, Bill Porche, Anthony Peatros, Rick Pritchard, myself and a few other guys. Larry showed up with figures from the 1966 super bowl packers and chiefs, I never will forget it.

Default Jim and Raiderman, you...

are right!

Jim, yes, you remember the 1995-96 Miggle convention and Larry Walker brought his display? He had many different poses.

Raiderman, you remember the wars over the sticks and I think Vance Warren was the first to bring them out. Now, I am not sure if Vance and Anthony Burgess were working with each other at that time. I know Anthony was the originator of the rule set but I am not sure if he was utilizing sticks at the time. I know Vance was a strong advocate of them though.

Also, the lateral dials were used with Gotham and Coleco in the 70's but were popularized in Arlington in 1995-96.

Does anybody have pictures or can take pictures of those dials? See, I learned something already. I never knew these were in existence.

So were directional dials part of the first "Monster bases" or are Monster bases another category.

Default Vance

We nicknamed Vance "Chopsuey Louey" in the CBA that first year because of his passing sticks. We used to show up with chopsticks from the chinese restaurants and give him a hard time. Yet another nickname that was handed out by me.

Wolf, the ATTAC passing system was a product of the NHFL. It was developed by Pratt, Rich and Aaron Johnson. It took a while to develop that concept. Aaron had a lot of the thought that went into it. Pratt had a lot of hours testing it and Rich had a ton of hours making it. I just watched.
