Default Double Standards ???????.......

I'm just wondering if the same bunch that are bitching and
moaning about Favres issues with retirement cried as loud
and hard when Michael Jordan went thru his indecision periods.??????
I'm guessing NOT ! And I don't want to hear it was different for
this or that reason (s). Indecision is indecision.Sounds like
double standards to me.But I'm not suprised........

Default Chris you must be crazy

Don't mention Favre and Jordan in the same sentence...........

Jordan retired, and came back a few times. This is not the issue here. Favre is trippin'. Either say you will be back or not. They even have commericials clowinin' the way Favre goes back & forth.

Hell, Sugar Ray Leonard did the back and forth thing, but nowhere near the area code of what your Mr. Perfect QB is doing. He is old news. The Packers are better with #12, and as soon as the Vikes put some faith in the guys they have the better off they will be!!!!!

Favre doesn't believe he needs to attend training camp or play pre-season games. He always has an injury or retirement issues to use to avoid both...

He is also a self-centered jerk and enjoys the media kissing his behind....

A great player....a HOF'er, but lacking some in the class department. Minnesota got what they paid for last year. The old man cost them a trip to the show.

Default Double Standard......

Corey,
You just answered my question about Jordan's
indecision episodes.Jordan couldn't make up
his mind either. It is EXACTLY the same issue.
Just so you know and so you don't get your panties
in a bigger bunch than they're already in,I'm in no
way bad-mouthing Jordan.Great athlete.Arguably
the greatest basketball player EVER,but he is still
human and had his moments of indecision.Nothing
to be ashamed of.( for either of them ).Like I said before,
it's tuff walking away from the game/job you've had
and loved for so long.
The guy is FAR from perfect.None of them are or
were.Not Favre.Not Jordan.Not Montana.Not Unitas...
NONE of them. But ,they are all human and therefore
imperfect.Making mistakes and having moments of
indecision are all part of this.We are all guilty of these
traits. That's life and it ain't perfect..........

Default Blame the media

Favre is the way he is because the sports media has made him feel that he is the best thing since sliced bread. He is maybe the most over-rated QB of all-time. Yes, he holds numerous records, and has been a dynamic player for years. But as a QB, it is your job, not only to win games with your arm from time to time, but also to NOT lose games for your team. Favre has single-handedly lost many games for his teams over the years. For the life of me, I cannot understand how the QB that has thrown more picks than any other in the history of the NFL, can be considered top-5 all-time. That's like saying the point guard with the most turnovers of all-time is better than Magic Johnson. It's ridiculous.

I can name at least 20 Qb's I would rather have under center than Favre. Some are not even in the HOF (Stabler, for one).

If the media would stop swinging from this guy's sack, maybe he would just go away. By the way, Childress is just showing the whole league why he will never win--he is swinging on the sack, just like the media.

Default Favre

Chris, you know I respect you and your opinion. You're one of my favorite guys in the hobby! I think we all can agree that Favre is a lightning rod. No one will deny he's an elite QB and proof was in the pudding last year when he ran the west coast offense in MN exactly the way it was supposed to...great year and beat my Packers twice.

That said, this whole "will I retire, won't I" has honestly been in play every season since 2002. Each season it gets progressively more about Brett and less about the team. It is not unfair for a team that's paying you 10-20 million dollars to ask for a reasonable deadline so they have contingency plans. All reports from GB talk about how upset Favre was when they drafted Rodgers and how he never would go out of his way at all to help him (compared to other positions where the vets are great to the young guys)...yet if he looked in the mirror, GB had to be prepared for the day when his "will I play or won't I play" ended up in an answer of "no." He brought that draft pick on himself by his behavior the previous few summers.

Now you have a team that could've gone hard after McNabb (after all Childress coached him in Philly), could've gone after Jason Campbell, could've drafted a QB, etc...but they're held hostage by Favre and his indecision.

What galls me most about him is how he tries to play the victim. He really wants to be begged to play and he'll make all the excuses about his biceps, shoulder and this year it's ankle. He could squash all speculation and say, "on this date I'll have a decision - it will be after training camp breaks, etc" but instead he lets things linger because I honestly believe he likes to hear the chatter and thinks that maybe that will tip things one way or the other in his mind.

A guy like Peyton Manning is working with the new WR draft picks the day after the draft because he wants them to be as familiar with the Colts way...whereas a guy like Toby Gearhart will be forced to adapt to the Favre way if and when Brett comes in with 2 weeks to go until the season.

There's a huge difference with how Peyton goes about his business off the field compared to Brett. They're both amazing on the field, but one guy is a leader 365 days a year and the other is only one on Sundays.

Great post Tom--about the most thoughtful thing I've read on this board in a LONG time.

Default To Play or Not To play,That Is the Question.....

Tom,
Nobody more than myself would like to know
if he's going to play or retire.I understand the
frustration folks are going through watching
and waiting for Favre to decide.I'm at the top
of the list, but I also understand his mind-set.
As I've said,it's tuff to just walk away from the
game you know and love when you think you
can still contribute. It's a hard decision and he
is having a difficult time deciding. That's NO REASON
to bad-mouth the guy,is all I'm saying.
It's true.Soon he'll have to decide, one way or the other.
It's really not fair to the team or fans to have to
wait "forever" ( as it seems to some) but it's also not
fair for the Non- Farve fans to bash him as hard as
they do.He's going through some,in my opinion,
emotional times, and should be accorded some common
courtesy as a human being..Just my opinions.
Some guys just don't get any slack and some get it ALL.
I just hope he comes back for one more season.Win,lose
or draw.I'd prefer win ( Super Bowl) .....LOL I know that
comment will get some replies.......LOL

Default Integrity

is not the word to use for Favre. As much as I root for him. I know his actions have reduced his credibility. But, he gets away with what ever he has done, so he is not 100% to blame. I agree with Tom that Peyton Manning is the definition of inegrity. His work ethic is probably the best in any field.

It was said above that there are other QB's who could come in and take his place, but there is some reason the teams put up with his issues, which would imply that he has something to offer that others don't.

Ultimately, we are having a multiple page thread about him, so like him or hate him, we still care enough about the subject to engage in it. Think of all the people who could do the same thing and we would not even care.

Default My Last Comments On The Subject ( I think).......

Guys,
I'm not condoning nor am I crazy about what
Favre is doing.I understand,hurry up and make-up
your mind.Let us know one way or the other.
But I've said it several times and this is the last time
I'll say it ,"It's got to be hard to walk away from
the only thing you've ever done " He's played
football for what,30 years or so.I'm going back
to his first game as a kid. It's all he knows.
Football IS his blood, like so many others that
play or have or will play the game.Trying to
come to a final decision has got to be bitter-sweet.
Hard to quit but maybe it's time.Only he knows'
for sure but is having a hard time grasping the answer.
I just say, don't put the guy down for trying to figure
out where his life is heading.Just wait until some of
you guys reach that time in your life. It's going to be tuff
on some of you to walk away. Some ,maybe not.You
say now,Oh I can't wait.I won't have any problems
walking away.As I said,some yes;some no.Either way,
you shouldn't be criticized -in a negative light, for
trying to come up with the right decision. That's all I'm saying.
This is all I have to say about Brett Favre, except,
like him or not,he's given us some great moments/
memories in his career. Some not so great too.But
with the good comes the bad.
