Glenn....
...I am in if we can knock the time in between plays down. I would like to show you how we played in the LAEFL which is not bad. Call me so we can talk!! My thing is that we have to be open to suggestions to make this thing work.

We're nowhere close to being on par with the LAEFL! Two minutes is some serious "heat" for HEFL coaches to get lined up and ready. That may be way slow for you guys, but again, we are not the LAEFL. I want to keep things competitive and for sure, NOT eliminate the fun we have. I don't want to create a "mini-LAEFL" until we get to the point where we have some 20, 30 or so coaches. When there is that level of involvement then we can step it up. I like to leave room for kids like Marky and newcomers just getting into the hobby, for example. We'll keep it "slow and simple" on purpose for now.
You may indeed completely dominate our league, which would be no fun for you. DFW is plenty competitive and that might be where to focus if you want competition. Don't get me wrong, I've been impressed with the LAEFL from its very beginning. It's a great league. I'd never survive in it personally, but I am a fan. Now, if you want FUN, then the HEFL is your ticket. Your call either way, but really, don't be holding out hope for us to step up to the LAEFL level any time soon. I've had hours of debate with Bill Porche on that topic, who also wanted to "Los Angelesize" the HEFL. We just ain't ready fo dat up in here! LOL! Not that we can't, mind you, I just don't think there is that kind of interest as a group. I could be wrong, but I myself, don't want to be like the LAEFL in competition. Amen Glenn
Glenn,
If we were on the clock and Jeff brought out those megaburgers, I would have to use all my timeouts just to finish the dog-gone thing! How could I forget mentioning those things when talking about how much fun the league was? Went after talking to RJ to Jeff's place in an attempt to recruit him, but he has more than he can handle right now and just doesn't have time to get that in. Mark |

Hey guys, I know you are a ways from setup, but I just thought I'd give you a tip about speeding up games.
In the Southeastern league, we implemented a 40 second clock. Here is how it works...... At the beginning of each play(when the board is turned on) the defense turns the clock on(set at 40 seconds). From that point the offense has 40 seconds to stop the board, and make a decision. The pass has to be off before the clock goes off. It really speeds up the game and keeps them from walking around the table forever! Most guys in our league set up quickly, but don't make play decisions quickly. Also, we are not afraid to put a clock on a slow setup guy if we have to. It's not personal, just trying to get as many games in before we go back home to our families. Hope this helps. |

The Clock Brings Out the Fun
The LAEFL rules are rooted in the traditions of the Texas Shootout Rulebook. So is the Alamo City EFL. It took a willingness by guys in those leagues who wanted to make a difference in changing the way the game is played before it could ever happen.
For me, efficiency is everything. I think you guys would benefit yourselves greatly to challenge the younger coaches like Marky to elevate his speed of the game. I know Mark teaches his son well. Being a natural teacher, I know Mark would work tirelessly with Marky to make that push to speed up the game. For guys like RJ (Robert Jackson), all he knows is fast paced football. The LAEFL is rooted in that. For him to change his game to a style that will be much slower than he's use to, you are certain to loose him. He's a great champion who leagues strength are centered around. I disagree that you should just have fun. If that is the case, why keep score? People want to WIN and win in an environment where they can honestly answer the question of, "Did we play on the highest level of competition in this style of play?" I know Cedric Rogers, Robert Jackson, and Mark Klingbeil. All are championship level coaches in their own right. That is a good base to take the HEFL to a more fast-paced level. It takes about 2-3 years to catch up but it can be done. Don't dilute what can be a great chemical formula. I am just an outsider looking inside but I would someday love to see the 3 leagues in the state of Texas compete under the same type of rule system. You have no idea how this could be a recruiting bonanza for all involved. But something like that comes with the efficiency of plays increasing. Reginald Rutledge |

Like I said before, the digital clocks we have set at TWO minutes is a dramatic and efficient improvement to our league. It is reasonable and it did speed up our "game". LOL! Two minutes is good and it works for now. Next season we may zip up to One minute and then after that 45 seconds....who knows, but it will have to be phased in and voted in.
Houston will continue to make FUN the primary focus. That is what makes us different. If peeps want to really "compete" to check their skill, that is what all the tournaments are for, the SeaWall Brawl, Texas Shootout, Bama Blast and of course the entire NHFL season and playoff system. With all the tourneys out there and the NHFL, there is no need for us to "conform" just to be like other leagues. We're different and proud of it. Now, if we can just get some coaches up in here! LOL! |
