Default I do understand

I did not send as much as you did. $120 to Shawn, and about 50 to 75 of product to the other person. Nothing from Shawn or the other guy. Money and product (bases) given to both of them at the meggle tourny 2010.

You guys gotta be kidding me - $475. I would do a team for you guys for less than half that. That is just too much - especially in such a small hobby community - just amazing and ridiculous!

Bob,

It can get like that in this hobby for teams that are custom made. That is way so much is made of the deal gone bad.

do the math... $15 to 20 per figure (on average completed) and you do a 40 man roster.......

Default WOW

Here is the way that I like to do business.
I don't ask for any money up front, I will let you know when the teams or figures are done and then you pay me.
One never knows what will happen that can delay the painting process. Example, I am painting a Redskins team for someone but my business has been very busy so I have had little or no time to work on them.
I have let the client know the status of the team, what % I have painted, on a monthly basis keeping him in the loop at all times.
That is my 2 cents.

Default Motivation

I too don't want to be paid up front. If I am given figures to paint they are a good enough deposit.

Also the the money is the reward when the job is finished. Having it up front becomes anticlimactic. I took a commision for a portrait painting several years ago and I was paid upfront. It was the hardest thing to make myself finish it because I already had the reward. Perhaps that is part of what happened on the situation being discussed.

However, that is no excuse for not doing it!

Post Why I don't do business.

Unless I am sitting right there.

I have a busy personal life. I did a team a while back for a coach and I didn't accept money until the product was available. Another coach I tweaked at a site I told him that the surface I was tweaking on would render the bases inconsistent on other fields. He said do it anyway then went on other surfaces and was not satisfied. Next time I saw him I pulled the starting safeties off my team and gave them to him. That was the end of that.

When I get my teams detailed, I have used Chris Stacey more than anyone. Very reliable and always on time. He goes out of his way to please you. If you are disatisfied with his work then don't do business with anyone because you have a problem.

Mike Guttman did a Giants team for me. He is very honest and up front and does excellent work. He is on time and keeps you posted.

I tweak my own bases but I have never had a problem with seeing one I like then buying it on site. I do not buy bases site unseen. To me, IMHO, it's like buying from clothes from a catalog without taking measurements.

I will buy bases from Jim Davis. An expert Barterer he delivers what he says he will right then and there.

Steve Martin is also a very honest detailer. Chuck Lawrence is the Bomb and he is just as good as Mike or Chris however he is so busy that I have to get too far in line. That Penn State team I brought from him remains one of the best paint jobs I have ever seen.

Jamel Goodloe is honest as they come. He does his own everything so he doesn't have to deal with any of this and I commend him for that.

Everybody buys their first runs from Jimmy.

That's my experience and I consider all these guys of high morale Charactor.

Some people I haven't dealt with locally so they may be great but I have no first hand experience.

Just my thoughts.
