I myself like the TTQB as is, but I do make one change to some of them. Take and drill up the leg and put a .025 piece of piano wire in and super glue it in place that takes care of the weak ankle.

Default Hey Guys

We have to keep in mind that there are others out there who are not in this hobby, are you and do you think of them?

It is easy to say practice practice, however this one sided observation is somewhat caveman like.

It seems like hey this is what I do best so everyone needs to do it this way, not thinking about the future but right now, is that wise?

Someone once told me " Why sale 5 DVD at $50.00 when you can sale 10 DVD at $35.00 ) The point is what is best for the buyer, well shouldn't it be the same for the future of this hobby?

TTQB or other form of passing, what is best for this hobby, not what you like!

I have talked to many officers on my job and everyone remembers the game, I have talked to some lawyers who remember the game also. These people are not in the hobby, and can represent the public who is not in the hobby.

They all think that passing with the TTQB was stupid, and thought that there was or should be another way to pass that was more user friendly.

I think that thinking of the future, and what is best for this hobby should be more important than doing what you like.

What if another form of passing brought in 50 coaches per league vs 1-3 coaches every year?

My point gentleman is Wouldn't you rather bring more people into this hobby, or do you just want to make this a privet club?

Just want to get you to start thinking out side of the box.

Well since the topic of the thread was "redesigning the TTQB"... maybe that's why the responses... I mean.. MOST of the responses have centered around .. "redesigning the TTQB"..

It wasn't meant to be a discussion on other ways to pass the ball... but even at that.. it's ok for any thread to morph into something more than it was intended... except of course when you accuse someone of promoting the TTQB.. Nobody was doing that.. they were just keeping to the subject.

If you play in a league that uses the TTQB.. then you do need to practice practice practice... It's neither backwards nor non-progressive to use the TTQB... We (Tornado Alley) have changed the rules to be all inclusive.. So we allow all of it.. but that doesn't make our way of thinking any more forward than anybody elses.. It's just the way "WE" .. not one person, but the group of us as a whole have chosen to play.. Nobody here changes rules around to suit their style and their strengths.. and then turns around and disallows this or that.. cuz.. they can't do.. this or that.. You've never once heard us say.. How many we are going to "allow" or that there's some kind of review of someone before they .. can get into our club..

And what's best for the hobby in this matter is merely an opinion..

OH ya.. I understood every angle and every word of the post..

If you redesign the QB you will still need to practice with it. If you use pass placement you still need to practice.

Hand me a spring loaded QB with laser sights and a GPS WR tracking system and I am still going to practice with it because if I don't I won't be as good as the guy that did.

A caveman that practices with his throwing stick will kill more game then a caveman with a rifle who has never fired it.

I'm sorry that I jumped off topic of the thread with the practice comment but the QB just doesn't seem like it needs alot of changes based on the guys I play against. The majority of them are incredible passers. If anything the QB works too good. That's not to say that a new version shouldn't be created and would most likely be accepted. Heck it might even make me a more competitive passer cause honestly, I stink at it.

Over all though, strengthen the ankle and I am content.

I think the original design of the TTQB is nothing short of sheer genious. I mean, here is something that you can pass and kick using the same piece of equipment. To me, there are only 3 things that need to be done differently. First, and foremost, they need to go back to the type of plastic that was used in the 70's. It was alot more flexable and resilient than the brittle stuff that is being used today. The second would be to remove the tab on the kicking leg and re-mold the leg to include a small slit in it. Then they need to design a small, thin 'L' shaped piece of metal that will bend slightly and return to it's original shape that can be placed into the slot to replace the plastic tab that currently powers the leg for kicking. This way, you can have a reliable power source for kicking that if it does get weak, you can simply remove the tab and replace it with another. The third thing is to make the kicking tee onto a rectangular 'brick' shaped piece of plastic that would go into a sideways slot in front of the kicking foot. This way, you just need to slide the tee one way or the other until it lines up with the kicking foot so he can kick straight. This would also allow the kicking team to slide the tee over so that the leg would hit the side of the ball for onsides kicks.

It has been my experience that the guys who call the TTQB stupid, never gave it a chance. I personally think it is quite an ingenious invention. I think there is room for the Qb and the pass placement, which is what the attack system is.

I would like to see the Miggle plastic improved, but I think the idea is solid. I still use a qb from the 1970's, he has thrown a lot of passes, and still going.

If your passing qb and kicker are not the same figure. Just figure out a way to tie both legs together somehow on the passer. This should make it stronger.
I have noticed recently that my passer seems to not have the same zip on his passes as he did a few years ago. I hope the plastic is not getting weaker.

Perhaps the key would be a difference of method as well as a slight design alteration. Instead of using a pull-back spring action, a finger-flick on the passing arm to launch the ball and a finger-flick on an extended tab on the kicking leg to perform kicks. Of course, this would require practise to discover the right amount of flick-force to apply, but then so do the present methods. The one advantage is that you dispense with or at the least greatly reduce the problem of stress fatigue in the plastic and thereby extend the usable service life of the TTQB.

Keep in mind that I favour the idea of simulation via the pass-placement concept or the use of passing cards, but it seems that if the TTQB figure is to be maintained as part of the game, approaching the problem from a different angle might lead to the better solution.

Default Redesinging the TTQB

Guys,

First let me say, I agree with every thing that's already been said. I love Al's spring loaded kicker and his up to date ideas on improving the TTQB. I myself have made a little modification to the TTQB ( Miggle ) to kick better. I'll show you guys in the next Coaches DVD. I noticed that many of the new Miggle TTQB's leg have a good kicking snap and it kicks to the right. I moved the kicking tee 2/16" to the right of the figure, then angle the figure to the left, and it kicks straight down the middle. I'll show you guys this in Detroit.

Let me also say that I talked to AB 2 1/2 years ago and convinced him that his system had a place in today's MF. With all the misunderstnding and blackslash he's been getting lately, maybe I made a mistake bringing him out the closet....Let me also say, and I have spoken to him about this, that his passion for our beloved hobby and his communications sometimes comes off to others as offensive! He said, "Smitty, I don't intentionly mean to offend anyone, sometimes others can say things better than me! It's a gift I just done have!"

Looking beyond his percieved personality because of his communication skills, I agree with his assessment of new people returning to the hobby. Today, many people contemplating returning to the hobby are not willing to put in the time in to reach the upper levels in our hobby. Some just don't have the time! They come into an MF environment, sense the skill level of others playing now, and they become intimidated! That's why I did the Coaches' DVD's. Its to help new people returning to the hobby, showing them how to throw and kick with the TTQB, base tweak'in, etc.

If the TTQ can be made to be more user friendly, I welcome it. We need to do more to welcome new people back to the hobby with figures, bases, and rules.

Smitty

Default The Ocean Speaks !!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Black Fish Are A Rising My Friends

Coaches

The reply is not ot offend anyone who love the use of the TTQB. Shabby j is right in regards to the TTQB needing a makeover. That plastic is not meant for continuos use in the matter in which we use it. I like shabby's idea on design. My question for the ef community is why are we so in love with this TOY/CONTRAPTION. I play in the DFW and the TTQB is the form of passing they have decided to adopt. I respect and honor the decision to use what was put in place by the king, reg rutledge. My thoughts/comments/views have nothing to do with any passer, league or ef entity.

HERE WE GO !!!!

I agree with ANTHONY BURGESS one trillion percent, this way of doing business is really out dated. The purpose of this post was to get feedback on the re-designing of this passer. This means, there are some who are not happy with it's design or using it. It is problematic to pratice passing with the ttqb only to discover the leg becoming weaker and weaker then breaks.
Call me crazy but could a manufacturer know this plastic does not work and does nothing to change it. Translation/ more broken ttqb's, more orders of them. hummmmmm ! How many times do you see on the news automobiles getting recalled because of a faulty part. hummmmmm !
I personally think it is ridiculous that we have to stick pins, glue and try different things to keep something from breaking when the manufacturer should do what it can to correct the problem. How about thicker plastic just on the ankle. Is that to hard to figure out. It should actually be a thick stump down there instead of an anorexic chad pennington.

In a world filled with many options, why dont some leagues let you pass in a manner that is more comfortable to you. What i like about ANTHONY BURGESS'S system is he gives you the option TO PASS using simulation or the ttqb. So why are some blatantly excluding what he has provided for us.
I dont want to hear how well some can use the ttqb, or those who cant.
The bottom line is options, when you go out for lunch you have the option to hit mcdonalds or have chinese food. But we are living in a ef world where we are told what to eat. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE if you use either form of passing as long as you can do both within the 20 second time frame.

How a coach chooses to pass should not be in a rule set. Imagine if the NFL told TONI ROMO, you cant play until you throw like a traditional qb.
If on one play i want to use the ttqb, fine. If the the next play i want to use pass simulation, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM ? If it is not taking up any additional time from myself, the opposing coach or the game, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM ?

This game has evolved to heights unimaginable, when i see your beautiful figures,( decals and paints jobs), beautiful stadiums, custom fields, etc etc, I look at this as chess pieces on a beautiful chess board. The minute a TTQB is whipped out, i see "TOY'. I see the toy that came with the game in the box.

That pass simulation is extremely elaborate. It allows you to focus on running a 9 route, comes backs, slants, out routes. It also allows for more detailed DB PLAY !. I want ANT BURGESS to put up a picture of his floating football he designed. It is designed to hit the receiver in the hands or chest.

I like shabby j's idea on the changing of the ttqb. I also want coaches to take advantage of the options that are here for us RIGHT NOW IN 2007/2008.

I really would like to know why the option to pass they way we want is not warranted. Especially if is it not taking any addtional time and slowing down the game.

MY FINAL THOUGHT/QUESTION IS,

"WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE ? "

Get that MPFL DVD IT IS AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!

MANTARAY-DRE ( THE OCEAN IS FILING UP FOR 2008)

What the heck, burgess mentioned this, DO SOME COACHES HOLD ONTO CERTAIN THINGS IN THE HOBBY BECAUSE THEY ARE PERSONALLY GOOD AT IT ?

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STYLES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
