That is so funny! We just put in ceiling fans this last summer and I got the same parts. I saved them because I thought some day I would think of a use for them for miniature electric football. Now I know...I also like the idea of having the sled on a base.

Here is one I made from a cover that came off of the end of an electric cord. It looks better then it functions but the base is weighted to 5.5 grams.

I know,.. I'll probably get killed for this. but are blocking sleds really necesary ? I understand trying to figure out how strong a base is, but come on.......que sara

yes it is necessary! if you don't have blocking sleds then you are not allowed to play! (kidding)

A good useable sled that offers even consistent resistance can help you in determining your strongest bases.
There are other ways also but blocking sleds are quite frankly "FUN" and another way to reproduce real football in miniature. Just like in model railroading...is it really necesary to have people waiting at the station, or snow on the trees or a tunnel to go through....no, you can still run your train around on the tracks but it is just more fun to run through that tunnel as it is more fun to push the sled.
