One of the things we tell people over time in the DFW is to create your own persona! It adds to the enthusiasm of what we do.
Our most famous nickname is "The Peanut Gallery". When everyone is at the games, the "Peanut Gallery" is a blend of all the coaches in the league. Our responsibility is to make it difficult for the favorite coach and sometimes the underdog to stay focused on the game. The "Peanut Gallery" was a nickname stuck on us by LeRon King. This is the group that heckles coaches when the game is going on. It is not intended to be disrespectful but we do let the coaches know we are in the house! Our thinking is "Why is the coach all up in section 252 AA listening to us couch potatoes? He needs to focus on his task at hand!"
Mini-Mike Ditka is Todd Thomas. A fiery individual who reminds you of a miniature version of Mike Ditka! He has been away for a while but he's coming back to the DFW!
The Guru is Oscar Woodard. A champion and student of the game.
C-Losey Dosey is Carlos Brown. Once NFC representative in the Super Bowl, Carlos once had 70 point scored on him in his rookie season but has shown the heart of a champion. Anyone who still plays after a shellacking like that definitely deserves the respect of his leaguemates.
Adrian "The Dragonslayer" Baxter from Washington, DC. Rose Rutledge gave Baxter this name after his upset win over Don Hudson in the 2006 Shootout. Baxter showed us right then that this was a guy we wanted in the league and we went out and recruited him! We felt he fit right in with what we did and felt whether he won or loss, would be a great leaguemate.
DeWone "Parcells" McDaniel coaches just like his true counterpart. Methodical, conservative, plodding but great at what he does.
Kevin "Twinkle Eyes and Don't Call Me Booty" Boddie is one of the new dawgs on the loose! Boddie is from Maryland but has come in and turned heads with an 8-4 first year record. Everybody knows the relationship of Boddie and Rutledge as Kevin was one of our most sought after recruits. Kevin brings energy and passion and intelligence. Boddie will be challenging for a Super Bowl in the next few years if he does not decide to venture out on his own.
Mike "The Protege" Robertson has won the most titles in league history. Arguably the best we've had and learned at the feet of Reginald Rutledge. A brilliant strategist and always-willing student. His enthusiasm is infectious.
"The Don, The Cuban Assasin, The Cuban Mafia, ErnRob" is Robert Don. One of the rising stars in the DFW and an internet celebrity. He does a great Lou Holtz feel sorry act but this guy is rising up the charts.
"He-Hate-Me" Ron Temple plays this role as well as anyone. Ron is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet but when game time comes around, he tries to intimidate you with his infamous stair and skogie. A fierce competitor who is trying to make his way to a title.
"Pep-N-Spray" Pervis Woods. We call him this because he sprays spit all over you when he talks about the game. His love and enthusiasm for the game is tireless. When he gets a little liquor in him, he becomes real emotional about the game. Pep is one of the hardest and beloved workers in the DFW. He's one of the stabling influences in the league.
"The Militant" Robert Jackson is from Houston via LA. "RJ" is one of the truest brothers you will ever come across! He has fit in like a glove here in the DFW and bring an abundance of talent on and off the wooden girdiron. RJ has already earned the respect of coaches in the DFW for his honesty, tell it like it is ways, and caring of all league mates.
Joel "The Cookin' Coach" Pritchard has come in and blended in well. Known for his slapstick humor and get-down-and-dirty-with-ya pride, Joel has become a local favorite. Although he lives in South Carolina, he could easily be right around the corner. Joel brings a humble attitude and just good-nature to the DFW. We think he will be a great coach in this league. He just fits into the type of fun we have.
LeRon "The Madman" King is always mad about something. LeRon once asked to be put in a miniature stadium on his cellphone to listen to the Texas Shootout. LeRon is from Huntington, West Virginia and is now making his assent up the DFW ladder. Only LeRon can stop himself from reaching that next level. If he curbs the madness and focus those energies, he can definitely win big here!
ErnRob is a combination of Earnest Claiborne and Robert Don. These guys are great friends as they practice together and offer each other tips. They give each other lollipops at games and outwardly cheerlead for each other. Something needs to be put in place to stop such nonsense!
"Ira-man" Ira Meachem is one of the energy guys in the league. Every time he comes out, the energy-level rises. He loves OU and lights up whenever you talk about the Sooners. Ira is one of the class acts in the league and is a tough competitor. We all draw great inspiration from Ira after watching him go through life and death struggles over the past few years. This guy is well-loved among the coaches.
"The Kitchens Boys" is Curtis Kitchens and his brother. While they've got a long ways to go, the "Kitchens Boys" is straight out of an old western. If these guys ever put it together on the field, the name will become infamous. Right now, its just a name!
These are just a few. You've got to come here to experience it and see who these characters are. One of the great things about all these guys is that they are confident in their skills but are more than willing to help you anyway they can. We watch the actions of coaches and somebody pins a nick-name on them and it sticks. We are always searching for ways to add humor to this league!
