The league went on without Marino, Elway, and Montana--the media makes Favre out to be bigger than the league--which is ridiculous, given the fact that he is not even in the same group with the guys mentioned above. Most int's in the history of the league--to me that will always be his legacy.
I sort of agree with you on this...but not so much about being selfish as about the way the media and the league plays up certain players. Now, if you are saying he is selfish because he should realize that he is "big news" and he affects other people...then it's tough to argue with that.

But most of the time they do this (media and NFL) because of the excitement the player brings to the game.

Favre is a crap shoot QB...you never know what he will do...so he creates interest in the league and as was pointed out earlier, this means $$$.

Look at Michael Vick before the whole dog fighting mess. Vick is/was a once in a lifetime player who brought the fans out of their seats on each play. He was probably just an average throwing QB, but people PAID to see him play because on any play, anything seemed possible. He brought a certain excitement to the game. ESPN couldn't talk about him enough (again, I mention this was even before all of the legal drama).

I think Favre still does that.

Those other QB's you mentioned were really cooked by the time they retired...(except for maybe Elway). Favre SEEMS to have something left that might be worth watching for 1 or 2 more years.

Should check out his stats. SuperBowl wins (Marino=none). TD passes, Passing yards, Consecutive starts!!!!

C'mon - 49ers since Montano?? Dolphins (one of my favorite teams) since Marino??, Broncos with the genius coach of the running game since Elway - who btw acted like a baby on his way into the league refusing to play if drafted by the Colts - or little Manning for that matter with the whole San Diego thing.

That is why the QB position in football is the most important position in ANY sport and why these guys are glorified.

Default I am soooo....

....happy for my man Favre. I can't stand the Packers organization in the way they handled this situation. Not saying that I agree with the way Favre did things but they could have handled this a long time ago. Now the Jets are a contender in the AFC folks. The Patriots will have their hands full this season.

Now that he has been traded I hope that we can FINALLY talk about something else in the NFL. The 2008 season officially starts in four weeks and I hope we can put Brett on the BACK page of sports news.

If the Packers really did treat Favre badly and he wants to get the ultimate last word, then maybe he will go into the hall of fame wearing a Jets uniform.

Default The Madden Curse?

I wonder if the Madden NFL curse will fall on Favre?

There have been a number of players that have been injury prone or had bad statistcal years when the were the Madden cover boy.

Anybody know if they can change the game (this cloes to the zero hour) to have Favre on the Jets when the units hit the store shelves?
