Awful.....simply awful
The news of how the Diesel lost thier games came as a great big letdown back home in the Tri-City area. Internet blogs are steaming about the poor play, rotten coaching, and lack of an offense. Talk around the watercoolers on Monday was about possible coaching staff changes that need to take place, player trades, and an unusual lack of interest by fans. Ticket sales have slumped, and crowds for home games are at all-time lows. Rumor has it that the team VP of Football Operations has a news conference sometime this week.
I have faith in the old coach, and they have played better than thier record would indicate, and much better than last year, especially on defense. Outside of the first half against the defending league champion, they have played pretty decent. A missed tackle made here and there, a 3rd down conversion or two made, a sack or two NOT taken, a receiver making a catch, and the Diesel MAY have went home with a 3-1 record as opposed to 0-4. Work still needs to be done on the pass blocking, running back play, and special teams (especially kickoff blocking and downfield coverages), but the team played hard, 3 of the 4 games went down to the wire (4th quarter)...and 2 of them weren't decided until all the winning teams time-outs were used and the game time was expiring. G-Force TDK kickers were winning games all weekend, the Diesel kicker even went 3 of 4 on field goals, and 2 of 2 on extra points. The atmosphere at Bill's on Friday night and Saturday was just crazy with fun, great food, and friendship. The Tornado Alley League guys are some of the best friends you could ever hope to meet. I can't wait until we meet up again for the rest of our league games. |
