I kind of agree with Shabby about giving the coach the decision at all times when to punt or not, but I do see the problem if you allow that. There are guys out there who pass so well and have such a good defensive team that they will never punt. This will lead to them racking up more points against weaker competition....and they will pour it on. I can see guys running for a few downs in an effort to get those running stats up and then going to the air on 4th to convert....since they never miss a pass. That demoralizes rookies and folks who are in it more for fun than winning at all costs. I understand, that is reality....but aren't we trying to grow the hobby? I like the LAEFL rules on this...you can go for it on your side of the field if you are behind and in the 4th quarter....and that is fairly realistic. I think you can always go for it on the opponent's side of the field.
I also hate the rules that restrict stuff like the bigger ball (pill), # of boat bases, # of cover corners....etc. If it can be made, then it can be countered. Does the opponent have plenty of boat bases? Guess you need more cover corners. Does the opponent pass all the time? Guess you need a D-line with their hands up. Can't cover his receivers? Time for guys to back peddle or spin around in zone positions....etc, etc. I do understand weight, height, proportion restrictions though. I have seen some figures that look like they are 9 feet tall in scale, or weigh 500 pounds. That is just ridiculous. |

Don't forget!
The cover conrners that have jousting sticks for arms. There should be some length restrictio from base out. I wish someone would check me like some of these figures. There is one trying to standing on the edge of the figure looking like frankenstein or something out of a Thriller video.
If the players were real that guy would get toasted every time with a simple swim move. Anytime I see that on the field I think if you ain't cheating then you ain't trying. I know it's part of the game you should not have to spend tons of money, make figures to compete. Oh, by the way, get that low Miggle running back. Beats them everytime!

jeff, shabby and ken
Good reviews on the punt rule. I think jeff sees the bigger picture. It not just about forcing you to kick but what about the stronger coaches who pass really well? They will never punt! I am one of those who will never kick it away. Here is a compromise. In the 1st - 3rd quarters you can go for it on 4th down no more than 2 times. This offers reasonable compromise and at the same time forces coaches to use this opporunity strategically instead of all of the time making the game unrealistic! I am more proactive than reactive so I suggest that as we talk about rules that we don't like let's have a compromisable alternative to bring to the table.
Ken, I hear you're one of the best tweakers in the land. Create a base that can mimic the swim move. Hint hint. It can be done. I have 1 and he runs about 50 yards down field after words. If a cover corners arms are 2 long he will tilt 4ward and not be very functional at all. I love this thread! Good luck FOTH with the NEFL championship game. I really wanted 2 make it but not enuff notice. I owe you a visit! You do a great job of supporting everyone's stuff. I promise I'm there next year! Give me at least a month notice.

Mike
It prohibits play with stock figures. Not a problem with the tweaking as you know. But holding is not allowed, chucking is. That's holding, then hanging on.
I already know what you are referring to Mike (hint/hint). I'll just beat them off the ball and go for 80 and a score . . . if I hit him and the box doesn't take it away. I am just saying it's a great place to hide your scrubs!

Cover corner arms
Just wanted to respond to a cover corner arms hanging over the line of scrimmage at set-up. This is and should be off-sides on the defense. I have lock down cover corners, but their base must be positioned at least 1.5 yards from the LOS in order for the arms to not be offsides. Allow for a receiver/TE to be pivoted and he has better potential to beat that cover corner jam.

Punting
In my ruleset we actually kick the ball with the TTQB. We also allow for quick kicks which really gives a coach some interesting strategy! I have developed two TTQB kickers and my kicking game is excellent. With real kicking in EF, a coach will use his kicker for board position (coffin corner kicks, etc.) It allows for a coach to use special teams to win a game. With practice and a good ruleset, the kicking game is terrific. The offense can fake punt or punt. It does not matter and should not matter, the offense should be able to use their 4 downs in any way. Make the defense play every play. But, one last thing, if a Coach is good with his kicker, you will find him not making stupid fake punt decisions.
