Default Weights

I am all for progress but we have to be careful not to discourage the ones that we are trying to attract. I know that I am frustrated at times as I try to build a team to compete in leagues that I am not competitive. You can't use older figures because the newer ones are bigger and heavier. Don't even get me started on bases. We are asking a lot of coaches if they have to continue to build new teams all of the time in order to compete any time that there is a move to increase size or weight. I know that there are many dedicated coaches who have the time, energy, money and talent to change their teams anytime that they want. There are many more coaches who more than likely don't get involved because if you don't keep up you could easily fall behind and get left behind.

I understand that guys with companies that sell figures want to encourage change. I think that change can be good and add new energy to the hobby.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. There are great leagues that are happy with what they are doing.

Default There Will Still Be Some 3.2 Players

Coaches,

What im trying to say is why is 3.2 the cap in some area's. Im not saying make all of your players 4.0 and have none at 3.2. For instance, if i want my lineman and line backers at 4.0, and my wr's at 3.2 why cant i have a team like that. Also, some db's at 3.2. If i went to weigh my players before a game and a lineman is let's say 3.8, can he play or does he have to sit ?

At some tourney's i had players maybe a gram over and was asked to make them lighter. My point is you got to be kidding me. Im not the only one who experienced this. They said what i said, you go to be kidding me.
If my wr is a gram over weight, is that going to make that much of a difference ? Is he going to get open any faster a gram over ?

I am going to do for you what you did for me. And thank you for the encouragement!

Don't let these "MF" warriors fool you! Knowing Norbert, Treks, and RJ personally, these guys rank among some of the most open-minded guys in the game, just proud of their leagues and styles of play.

Everybody knows by now I love what the Great Lakes does. I think those guys are terrific up there. You've go old war horses like Jamel Goodloe, Jim Davis, and Ken Allen to name a few and the magic of "Norby 89", one of the most passionate guys in the game. Then you got RJ, LA's finest and now Dallas's own all with interesting views on the game. You got Mantaray 'Dre, always the promoter of the game and always seeking the truth, discussing some friendly miniature football.

Then you got ERob coming from LA with the boil base spin on things and thus a combustible discussion starts! Sometimes, even in these discussions, something good can come of it. There is sometimes a silver lining in the discussions that you may pull out of it. Don't be discouraged by the knowledge, banter, and passionate that these gentlemen argue.

Speak your opinions on things. I find you to be very wise and appreciative of the game. We all need more perspective instead of you just being a guy on the sidelines not voicing your opinions.

Just my take,

Reg

You know, who's right? Whos Wrong? Everyone is right....Sure I like the 4.0 guys but I dont dislike the 3.2 rule. Everyones leauge is what it is, and what they make it...and that would be right. I think the players move faster at 4.0 but I still think players move fast at 3.2. The main reason that I like the bigger figures is because that it gives you more of a choice....I love custom figures, and I love what everyone is doing to get the hobby out in the public....It was because I feel upon Reg's page that I got back in the hobby after a 25 year lay off. I'm not knocking the fab five but they bored me.....I do like the customs that are 3.2 or smaller as well.....Anyway, point is...no one is right or wrong...Doesnt matter who you are or what leauge you're in...your RIGHT!!! 3.2 - 4.0....just numbers.....

Cool By the numbers?

The reason that we employ 3.2 is that most new members are not looking to customize or spend heavily. They ease into the hobby. I do remember, when the bases were made with cheaper and cheaper plastic, that we added weight to make out teams run smoother. So I really understand the difference.

Boiling bases is another choice we work around because people got tired of the awful smell, short shelf life during boiling. Add the fact that tweaking is just as effective with longer lasting results, then you have our position.

I'm not knocking no ones preferences but we leave no coach behind.

The numbers speak for themselves.

And we customize!

If tweaking is just as effective wilth longer lasting results then, why is boiling so tabu? I don't know about others, but I still have to tweak my bases after boiling them. I am not familiar with an overwhelming bad smell associated with boild bases. Other than the smell, I would think that boiling would be up to each individual coach. Also, I'm just an advocate of not banning a particular practice just because I don't like it or use it. I think each coach should be able to utilize his strengths as long as it is within the rule set. I used to boil for power and strength, but with the advent of new equipment, I more so boil for speed and smoother running men. Ken, you and many others witnessed me tweaking a unboiled proline, and making it stronger than one of my strongest boiled players at the convention in Chicago, when the Prolines first came out (Klingbeil asked how did u do that, & I gave a demo). That is why you would be suprised to find out which positions have boild bases on my squad. I feel you on some of the pains, trials, and tribulations of trying to boil for strength. I have purchased up to 10 packs of bases to find 3 out of 222 to make the Offensive/Defensive Line, LB or TE. Far too much work. In building my teams today, I find maybe 45%-50% of them to have boiled bases on them. I just don't want to loose the option.

The thing is it is not just weight that wins games. It is also coaching and talent per team.rjackson I would take Norbort,JIM Davis and Ken Allens 3.2 against your 4.0 team any day. Those three are the strongest but best skill teams around. They are all very skilled and good coached teams.

I do still like the 3.2 myself but do think that most leagues and tourrneys are opening up to new products and is great.I will just play with the rules per each game and bring what I got.

Default Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Rj

Bring your 4.0 team, we can have a nice little quiet game alone in my room, remember youngfella, all 3.2 teams are not the same.

Wally, nobodys upset or over reacting my friend, I love both, and to be honest, our own 4.0 league itself starts in 2 months, I'm in the beginning stages of building them now.

After reading here and in different post that 4.0 and higher weights run better, I just wanted to show that 3.2 is a beautiful weight to play also, thats all, either or is fine.

Default Wally?

Great to put a face to the name. You hit it on the head. In a competitive league, like our season two, not only did people boil for strength here was the number difference:

Jets Avg Weight 5.6

Giants Avg. Weight 3.4

Now, the coach ran a snow job and he was declared the winner for two reasons:

1. We said boiled
2. The disparity wasn't addressed early enough. I beat the guy earlier in the season so he went back and got bigger, right after a trip to the West Coast.

What I know really happened was this guy had connections and had large molds made of his best bases. The plastic from several bases was boiled into one. I swear his base reeds were as strong as a normal base. I am still ********ed because it ruined my perfect season. However, by tweaking standard bases you can still get the "boil" effect without the boil.

Our philosophy is based on lessons we learn in a highly competitive environment. Therefore, tweaking stock and making weigh assures that the best coach wins.

Mark played in our league this year, for a minute.

Hope to see you at the convention.

Default My 98% Off A $1.00

I played 7 games in the LAEFL, and I was NOT convinced that boilers were any stronger or faster than highly tweaked bases of the same weight. In fact, in trying to tweak bases to be as strong as boilers I (A) improved my own personal skills and (B) began to use less boilers so that my team would be able to compete elsewhere.

I think as long as the weight limit is the same for both teams, it would then come down to coaching, and boiling becomes a non-issue. I liked our rule out on the Left Coast: "3.3 is 3.3!"

Chuck, I wouldn't write a check that Norbert, Ken and Big Jim can't cash! Personally seeing ALL 4 aforementioned coaches play, my money's on RJ's 4.0 squad. In fact, I got $5 on it. Let RJ's 4.0 team play either Norb, Ken or Jim's 3.2 squad. No boilers. We can get that game scheduled right now if yous want! I'll put it on my undercard at The SWB or we can do it at Miggle.

DISCLAIMER: Above is an attempt to collect a debt that Mr. Chuck Lawrence incurred on behalf of one Mr. Norbert Revels, one Mr. Ken Allen, and one Mr. Jim Davis. As sole instigator to the offended, Mr. Robert "RJ" Jackson, it is in the best interest of this hobby to schedule and play this game in the very near future, in order to settle the debate: "Which is better: 3.2 or 4.0? And Why?" The winner will have bragging rights for up to 364 days within such timeframe he, the winner, must defend his title.
