I am a rookie as far as competative play but I have been on this site as well as Miggle for a long time. This debate has been talked about for years. What is the advantage or disadvantages of a higher weight standard? It's hard enough to try and get people to just PLAY. I see it as this, If I want to play in a league or tournament I will abide by their weight rules. I say JUST PAINTEM UP AND LETS PLAY!

Default AN EF GUIDE BOOK

WOLF,

This is an excellent idea. Are you saying small pamphlets or something like that. New comers would like tohave a small instruction book to read as they are sitting at a table with there ef equipment. There are people who do like the olders avenues of communication that were popular before the internet.
I think coaches would chip in to see this project through. In the long run, it's or the good of the hoby and everyone else. A perfect example is, when burgess put out the MPFL VIDEO as a learning tool. Many still asked him for the small book he put out with his first video. I have it and keep it in my bag to study from time to time. An explanation on weights and other equipment in a book form would do wonders. I guess it could be part of tghe new members packet.

Another example is we talk about warhammer painting here on this site until we were blue in the face. I still went down to games workshop and paid $30 for the book. The book shows you things that cant be explained online.
It's nice to have something to refer to for information instead of coming online. Burgess said practice his style while watching the dvd. I do that but i use the book also. This way i dont have to cut on the tv/dvd player at times.

Simple instruction on what to use too add weight, where to buy it. etc etc.
I wish we know the specific size of a paticular nutt or bolt that fit perfectly under a base. This way a new comer can walk into home depot or any harderware store and ask for that products item #. he wont have to look long and hard and become frustrated. For instance, this nutt/bolt weighs this much when placed under a rookie base that weighs that much.

A small book would get a new comer to hit the ground running alot faster.
Knowing, in our hobby, he is meeting the standards for whatever weight class he chooses

An EM-F Guide book has been on the planning table since we started the MFCA. It is one of the main objectives I have as a former president and now board member to accomplish before I pass the baton. There have been some strides made and some small pieces are being produced every day. This discussion is another of those pieces.

We hope at some point to make one specific TWEAK issue dedicated just to that and set up in a EM-F For Newbies kind of format.

Standards has already been placed on the agenda for the business meeting in August so it is going to get discussed! The nice thing is we can hammer out many of the details right now with thoughtful and thought provoking online discussions. That way at the meeting it may only be a matter of final approval.

Let's keep pushing forward.

Default WEIGHT AND FIELD SPEED.

COACHES,

Due to the various styles of play today in 2010. I think field speed is increased for player performance.

1)coaches want the players on special teams to fly down field on kick offs and get field position

2)coaches want their WR'S to slide off that DB to get seperation.

3)coaches want their loopers to fly around the corner in 1 to 1 1/2 seconds.

In order to accomplish this the board speed must be increased. When increasing board speed, a heavier figure has a better chance to stay upright than a lighter figure. When you have an electric current running under plastic pieces to help them move. Something has got to give. Dont get me wrong, some 4.0 figures will fall over but a 3.2 figure is so lights it begins to pop around on the board because it cannot handle the current. The additional weight help to balance this out. I saw weighted figures flying around the field at my first texas shootout. I did not know much about weighting when i went down there. Don hudson introduced me to weighting down a figure. My team was not that balanced but became just fine once he weight the players

Well, let's see. Do we make the 3.3 class the "standard" and call the 4.0 a "heavyweight" class, or do we make the 4.0 limit the "standard" and call the 3.3 a "lightweight" class?? Ohhhhh....decisions, decisions

I know, let's settle this the old fashioned way.

LET'S VOTE!

Yes, just like our forefathers (or was that our four fathers?) before us, and in the fashion of all other democracies, let's have a good old fashon vote. There's 268 or so guys signed up on this chat board, so let's get everyone involved. 3.3 or 4.0? This is the MFCA, that's an association of miniature football coaches, so who better to settle this dispute?? It's time to settle this once and for all. Let the majority rule.

I don't know if it's a joke, but finally....3.2 makes sense too. A stock standard fab5 fig on a stock diamond speed base is less then 3.0grams, after all !

Dmitri, in that case 3.2 would be the top end of that weight class. If your guy comes in at 2.9 and you want to keep him there then that's ok. If you want to add weight to him to get up to 3.2 then that's ok as well as long as he does not go over 3.2.
