the 1926 navy midshipmen, voted national champions by 2 of the 13 "polls" at the time, shring the title with alabama and stanford. michigan and lafayette also had single votes that season. i painted them in gray-scale (black and white), i thought that it would be fun and give a real throwback feeling if they were painted up like the old black and white pictures.

These figs in particular:
I know these were "works in progress", but they harken to the throwback uniforms worn by the Lions and Packers (one set) in the 1994 anniversary season: sans stripes and featuring simple, solid colours and large numbers. I appreciate simplicity, and to me, they were the sharpest designs out there that year. A direction I'm considering for the painting of my own teams. The finished figs, however, were awesome. |

a couple more...
LESTER HAYES, COMPLETE WITH STICK 'EM. CHUCK EALY, UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO. chuck ealy was undefeated as a starter in high school AND college, but was not drafted in the nfl due to owners not believing that a black qb. would be effective. so he went to canada, won a couple of grey cups, is in their hall of fame, but is still not in the college football hall of fame! his win streak as a starting qb (i believe) is still a standing record, and he helped toledo break the top 25 while he was there.

a couple of years ago, there was a picture of a green bay packers-mike mckenzie figure made by chris robinson (i believe) that was on the old "to the house" website. this was the very first custom figure that i had ever seen. this figure inspired me to pursue creating custom figures myself. there was a lot of "life" sculpted into this figure, as well as great proportions and a wonderfully dynamic pose.
as the momfl approaches its 3rd season, i am restructuring some of my team into home and away squads, and i felt that it would be fitting to pay a little tribute to the inspiration and add my own variation of this pose to my home squad. i hope that i do it justice, thanks for the inspiration. the new look saints mean business in season 3!
