Default Base Boiling and Weight

I love these discussions about bases boiling and weighted teams. I have read all of the comments in this thread. As a result, I want to add my approach to this issue of base boiling.

Similar to Kotixblack, I use a combination of mineral oil and baby oil. Although other types of bases can be boiled, the only base that I boil is the Miggle frosty bases. The plastic of that type of base is soft, but not so soft that it will melt or shrink when it comes in contact with boiling water. I use the size of pot that cooks a box of Goya rice. I don’t remember the quart size. I boil no more than 50 bases at a time. Using the pot that I am talking about, I mix 3 cups of water to 1 ½ cup of baby and mineral oil mix. That’s a total of 4 ½ cups of liquid. Boil the bases for 5 minutes. After boiling, wash and rinse them in warm soapy water. Lay them out for about a week to dry. Once they are dry, tweak to optimize the performance of them.

I only use baby and mineral oil. There may be someone out there who may use motor oil. I don’t know anything about that. If it works, I would say that is too much and unnecessary. Show some class. Keep this thing in its proper perspectives.

If you know how to cook, you know how to boil. The key to base boiling is watch them as they boil. Do not start boiling and walk away; calling yourself multitasking. Do this in a clean kitchen. The only pot that is on the stove is the base boiling pot.

[quote=Shabby J;28020] I got waxed for quite a while as I learned, but once I got my skill set, I was doing the waxing. Same in MF, when I returned I was soaking up all the knowledge I could, I still am after three years, steady building my skills. If one dude boils better then another, OK, some dudes tweak better than others too.

It seems to be availability of bases that can be boiled, not everybody has access or can pay for them Then you allow 4.0 in your league and you know who the boilers are, when you play a boiler in your league, you go head to head, if you play a non boiler, then weight up a team of tweaked but non-boiled bases and go head to head with him. This keeps it on a level playing field.

Things can always be worked out and compromises can always be found.

AMEN! I just want to play in a fair invoronment at the highest level possible.

Jimbo,
I will try to make it. If my funds are right I plan on going to TX, & VA. My first priority is TN in July. Gotta check up on some family members (old folks).

Geno,
Called you at about 747 PST, got your machine...will try again tonight.

Default MOZEEK, YOU MEAN THIS ONE ?

COACHES,

It's ok to read things from the past because it has helped us to become one.

Out of all the different statements you guys are saying, I only ask about this one, are you guys saying coaches should not buy or trade for tweaked bases ?, before I get into this more fully, are you saying coaches have no integrity if they have no time to tweak, or know how to tweak, but want to enjoy this hobby now, ......are you saying that the father who wants to share this hobby with his son but does not have the time to sit for hours and learn how to tweak has no integrity, exactly, what are you saying ?.

im with you on this big norb, NOT EVERYBODY HAS THE TIME AND RECOURCES TO BUILD THIER OWN TEAM OR WHATEVER ,SO THAT IS WAY WE LOOK TO THE BEST TO SUIT UP OUR TEAMS ,WHETHER IT BE BASES,BOARDS OR OTHER, AS LONG AS YOU GET TO COMPETE WITH YOUR PEERS IN MF ,WHO HAS THE RIGHT TO SAY OTHERWISE,NOONE.
