Default My best memory

When I was about 10 years old, I needed a new football set, and I told my dad for months that was all I wanted for Xmas. All he would say was, "we'll see". On Xmas eve night, I stayed up all night, as usual, with my brothers, and could not wait to see my new Super Bowl board.

When we were called downstairs to the tree on Xmas morning, I flew down the stairs, and looked under the tree---there were tons of toys, Atari, bikes, everything BUT a football set. I guess my dad saw my disappointment, and came up and hugged me, and pointed under the staircase. THERE WAS MY SUPERBOWL BOARD--DALLAS VS. DENVER!!! It was all set up underneath the staircase, with the players based up, and everyything. It was the first time I had seen TTC bases, and to this day, that is my most memorable Xmas gift ever--didn't even ride my new bike that day.

My dad is a special dude to me, and everytime he ********es me off, I remember days like that, and how much he has sacrificed for ME since the day I was born. Merry Xmas pops!!!

Are you sure your dad didn't want to just get a few games in himself before you took it from him...

Default When things where different!

I was born a baby boomer and raised in an era where you would never ever think of getting the types of expensive gifts kids find under the tree in todays world. My Dad worked for the U.S. Post office and until the strike in 1970 didn't make that much.He worked all the overtime he could and also held a second job, money was tight.I had two brothers and a stay at home Mom, kinda typical for that day and age. When Christmas rolled around Mom and Dad did the best they could to get us the one big thing we wanted but you could bet if it was over $20.00 forget about it,we knew better than to ask for things in that price range. On my 8th. Christmas I asked for just one thing "Electric Football" It was the only thing I wanted which surprised my parents because I had always asked for at least two or three things all totaling less than $20.00 of course. If you where lucky you got them all and that Christmas was one to remember.
I knew this Christmas was going to be a good one because I overheard Dad tell Mom to get the kids what they want and not worry about it.I never slept a wink the night before the big day and was sitting by the tree when the rest of the family got up.I had looked at each box with my name on it and I saw nothing in the shape of Tudors Electric Football. As we began to open all the presents I found no joy in it, my Christmas wish wasn't there, I was crushed.
I liked the American Flyer train Dad had gotten the three of us and some of the other stuff was cool but without "THE GAME" Bah Humbug!. Mom was busy throwing all the wrapping paper away and my two younger brothers where busy with the new train and I was sitting in the corner sulking when all of a sudden Dad reached behind the couch and said holy cow I forgot about this one and handed me the box that contained what would be my favorite gift of all time.I still have it to this day in working order with all the parts.
I played with those Red and Yellow guys with the tape on the bottom hour after hour day after day for several years until the new and improved games came out.It began a life long love with what I believe to be the greatest game ever invented. My Dad passed on two years ago and I miss him beyond words but when ever I think about him reaching behind that couch it brings a smile to my face and a warm feeling in my heart, thanks Dad for the best Christmas I ever had.

Default Christmas Memories

Thanks for bringing back the memories Shabby. I attached a picture of my dad and I playing EF when I was 5. Man, we enjoyed it.

I still remember one Christmas where he got me an organizer to put all my teams in. It replaced the many plastic margarine containers that held all my teams and lined my shelves. I still say that was the best Christmas present I ever got - totally unexpected. He typed up labels for every team...I was in 7th heaven!

Thanks for posting MplsTom, great pic.

That's what this thread needs, some excellent vintage personal EF pics to go along with these great stories.
