It's All About Playing MF...
be it at 3.2 or 4.0, for league play everyone gets together and decides on a weight, be it one weight for all positions or allowing different weight at different positions.
We are dead in the middle of MF's greatest era yet, with all these different figures coming out, all the accessories, not to mention the custom boards, we need to embrace the weight increase, as long as everyone in a league can agree. If you are hosting a tourney then let the rules committee set the weight or play using the host leagues ruleset. I have been building teams around the 3.2 weight since I returned to the hobby three years ago, as from what I read and heard everywhere that was the "standard", if you will. I will say since getting my 308 field some of my 3.2 players do not move as fast I would like, Reg told me that heavier players will really move better on the board. I am now going to build around the 4.0 after a lot of experimentation on my 308 with various figures and bases at different weights. Reg does not need to promote 4.0 because his based up figures weigh in over 3.2, he as many of you, like myself have found out that 4.0 weight offers better play. Rest assured, 3.2 will not be going anywhere for a long time, the fab 5 on a TTC or rookie is a killer set up, especially tweaked for speed and strength on a good running 620, that is some sweet MF right there. I got some 3.2 backs that will haul arse on the 308 too. We should not panic about the weight issue, we are all managing somehow to work it out right now, as a lot of you have posted about the different weights you are playing. It's all good.

Good Stuff So Far
I'm glad my bros. in Detroit didn't take my "offer" the wrong way, except Chuck thinks I think that he thinks that I think that he thinks that I think skills in the "D" are subpar. THAT COULDN'T BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH, RUTH! 15 yards for Unsportsmanlike Thinking!
Example: If Norbert tweaked 100 bases EXACTLY the same and put 50 on Haitis/Buzzballs and the other 50 on ff.coms, and then jumped in the cloning machine from The Fly so he could coach both teams against each other, who would win? That's the $1,000,000 Question. I agree that each league grows differently and we (the MWEFL) have never turned anyone away because of their equipment or should I say they never turned away because Ronnie has all the pretty teams. Since making our own big boards, we have found heavier guys move better, yet there is still a need for that slippery, slimy, exceptionally fast but not as strong 3.2 guy. It comes down to a snowy night in Chicago aka Monster Board. Which would YOU rather drive? A '69 Mustang (3.2) or a Dept. Of Transportation Snow Plow (4.0)? Weight and power is needed in that situation. On a clear sunny day (620), the reverse would prolly win. We're just looking at 2 extremes that can EASILY be advantageous in different situations. Look what Appalachian State did to Michigan!?! It could happen on any given Sunday. As long as BOTH coaches know what they're getting into I think it would make for great competition. In the game between Norbert and McNorbert, I'd bet money at the end that there would be bases (players) from one team that would find their way onto the other team to create a balance. There's a need for 3.2 on EVERY team. The same could be said for 4.0. Naturally, there'd be a need to split the difference, thus 3.6. I think THIS needs to be the NEW STANDARD: 3.2, 3.6 AND 4.0. It's just The American Way. flg$ "Denny Crain!" |

It does not matter what weight we play at
As long as coaches are playing and having fun man, that should be it, period, if a tournament or league called for it, I would play in the winter time on the roof on a cookie sheet tapping it with army men glued to my bases, I DON'T CARE, I love this hobby. and just want to play.

I really didn't want to touch this thread with a 10 foot pole...
... but RJ asked me for my opinion. Before I give it, here are a few comments:
Quote:
As long as leagues and tournaments continue to play at 3.2/3.3 weight standard. (and there are a lot of us) the answer is NO. Quote:

Lastly, my opinion................. 3.2 or 4.0 which is better? To be honest I don't know, nor do I care. I'm the type of person who, if I attend an event or join a league... Just tell me what I can or cannot do, and tell me what I can or cannot use, and I'll be ready to rock. I'm just a coach who believes that our hobby IS making some progress; I'll leave the rest of the debates for the politicians. As usual I'm only speaking for me; I'm not suggesting that people do what I do. Peace to all, OldSchool |

I just
Want to play with any figure I like. Fab Five, Buzzball, FF.com, Electric Gridiron, and of course, Great Lakes CCCUUUSSSTTTOOOMMMSSS! fouru2hate and one2watch!
For those of you who are interested. I will be showing off a team painted for me by none other than the legendary Dirk Thomas. They are old, faded but there is no mistaking the trademark strokes of the greatest EF painter, and Person that I will ever know. If anyone has a picture I can download to put with my display I would be greatly indebted. I had to fight a T.O. moment when I pulled them out the box. They are some 49ers, oversized to be 3.2 because in the DEFL we didn't use TTC's, but for some odd reason we had that standard. They are about 9 years old. Keep your stuff! Take care and see you ballers in a week SHA! Ken |
