Working on a new system; What do you think??
Hey, I am developing a new system for electric football. It actually speeds up the game greatly. It also adds a touch of realism to the game. I know most leagues allow the offense to either audible/ and, or pivot and then the defense is allowed to pivot. Instead of this being a seperate step by each opponent, I am incorporating the offensive and defensive pivots simultaneoustly. At the instant the offensive says hut or stop, all pivoting is ended, and then the play begins. This type of play makes the offense audible and pivot very quickly to gain an advantage or out number the defense scheme wise. The defense must react to the offense instantly in order to counter. Of course, there are some pivoting guidelines that the offense must follow. After this procedure the play develops as in any rule set. I have found this to be the most exciting type of play! Coaches, give me some feedback and ask any questions! I have also developed a new way of passing with the ttqb that I think is original, (not sure though) that allows DB play on the ball. Thanks

One thing i like about this idea is it allows the DEFENSE to force their game plan easier. Right now, for the most part, pre snap audibles are along the lines of read and react - O pivots, Defense counter Pivots to match. Mostly, Defense is just following and matching the Offense.
In your style, with both coaches pivoting at the same time, the Defense has a chance to make a big play with a pass or run blitz that is not picked up by the Offense. Should you move a wr from the left to the right, instead of the usual counter move of bringing my corner over, i leave the corner on that side and bring him into blitz mode. No one is there to pick him up if you thought he would follow the wr to the other side. The same could be done with LB's and safeties who are brought into the box - now, unexpectedly. I like your idea alot. SOme kinks to work out, or further explanation on how it works, but i like it whole lot. Would love to hear more. |

I like this rule I will ask my coaches about this for our pro league next season . It make sense to pivot at the same time. My question is we use a presnap and then pivote all unengaged players. Would this rule take out that type off play system.

Will work just fine!
Thanks for your comments! I have used this with a snap rule and it works just fine. The only thing yu would be missing with the snap is the offensive backfield shift as in the Texas Shootout rules. I like the offense to be able to shift into a formation and then pivot. Actually the defense can respond in any desired way, but if the offense says hut (signal), the defense is locked into their position or pivot. The offense can then run their play. Their are numerous offensive/defensive manuevers you can do. You can play the game just like real football.

Wouldn't it be easier to just impliment a timing system? Say after both teams have their initial set ups and "set" is called, the teams would then have 5 seconds (?) for pre snap adjustments otherwise the offense coach could delay calling "hut" until he sees a defense set up he can take advantage of.

You can solve that problem by imposing, as in real life football, a 30-second clock (or for MF cut the limit down to 15 seconds) and a delay of game penalty for excessive readjustment. There would also be a risk of drawing an illegal formation penalty if the offensive coach makes a mistake in his adjustments. This scheme actually increases the pressure-level on the field and forces a coach to think on his feet.

cannot delay
An offensive coach would not want to delay. This would take his advantage. There is a time limit for the entire play. The offense sets up with a shift/ and or a man in motion with pivots, same rules as the NFL. Now the offense can not use deception. Once a pivot starts, the player may not be turned back. I have guidelines for play which are very simple. The offense and defense must have a plan. The defense must set up in particular schemes they can adust quickly as in real football. This is another new and exciting level of play. You guys try it with an opponent. You will begin to see that the offense will definitely want to establish a quick tempo. You can add your own twist to this type of play. Football is played with adjustments in real time. Why not make adjustments in electric football in real time??

UPON FURTHER REVIEW
I am interested even more.
I could probably mess with it based on what you have said, but do you have the rules written out in entirety? Either that, or be ready to field questions on the fly. But this is very interesting. Good going EFGAMER, you are living up to your name. I wonder if the MPFL might want to take a look at this and see if it can be allowed to be, or if it can be, incorporated, since that rule set is based on football realism. If there is anymore to tell, let us now. IF you could detail in word description, how an actual play went down, step by step, that would be cool. Dont know if its quite possible though, with both coaches moving around at the same time. |

yup
That pretty much sounds like it. But i am sure there are some minor details and rules involved. Like.......
What is the time limit from initial set up to calling "HUT"? Can you pick up a man and move him anywhere, lets say a wr from one end of the field to the other? Can you move guys with both hands, therebye perhaps, trying to race the D coach to a spot or confuse him with moves? Once a player is moved, can he be moved again? I know we are not kids and some of this might sound ridiculous, but i do know that in the heat of the moment and with a game on the line, some cats like to take advantage or pull out cheap tricks that undermine the integrity of game, so i was wondering if there were any rules to limit or govern all of this the same for equal and fun play. |
