Raiders Jerseys?
I have come across an apparently rare jersey arrangement when the Raiders used white outlines on the silver numbers for the home jersey. I have come across two different photos that clearly show this. However, I cant find any documentation as two what year(s) this occured. I am guessing it was in the 1976 season, but I can't verify this. My main question is does anyone know for sure what color the names were on those jerseys. Were they white, silver, or silver with white outlines? If by chance could someone also either post a pic or send a link to any other examples of this. I have already been playing with the decal designs and they look good (alot better than the plain silver). Thanks for any help. Michael

Post?
Can you post the pics you have of this jersey arrangement? I've been a Raiders fan forever but I'm not familiar with this outline.

Never seen...
it before. I don't think they have ever had white outlining the silver.

Photo
Sorry it took me so long to answer. I have had a very busy week. The picture I have of Hayes is in a book and I don't have a scanner, but I did find a pic with Stabler in the jersey. It was apparently a very short lived design. The only pics I have seen with it on Stabler are when he had the red helmet mounts on the front. I have seen a couple of other photos with that helmet and jersey combination, but this is the only one I could find at this time. (Edit: Hooray! I found a good clear example!)

hmmmm
That looks a lot like the sun shining off of the silver stitching, I don't think that the raiders ever had white outlines
might be a pretty sweet custom for you to do though! |

Reflection
I too thought that it might just be silver edges reflecting, but it seems so consistent (and it is even in the shadows), that I thought it might be white. Also, it is very pronounced only in certain photos. There is a lithograph I have seen on ebay from the second photo, and the artists made the outlines white, not that they actually researched it, but most artists who were going to make a liscenced print would research for accuracy. I may have to contact the Raiders just to find out. I have never contacted a team, so that may be interesting to do. Thanks for your responses though, I really appreciate it. Michael

I think it is an optical illusion with the photo(s) that you are seeing. Maybe they used a slightly different shade of silver thread for the stitching, but I would almost guarantee that it was not an intentional design.

It's silver
Their stitching, even to this day will give off that look sometimes in the light, but it's silver stitching.

agreed
I agree with the above posters, I really do think it's just stitching and not an actual outline. BUT...seeing how precise you are wih your figures (and that's a compliment) I don't think it would look out of place if there was an outline.

Two tone
I thank all of you for your feedback on this. You guys are right! I found many photos with a light border on jersey numbers that are only silver, although the ones from the Stabler photos seem more extreme. I have made adjustments to the decals and made a two tone silver that has a similar effect as the white outline and it looks good too. I will post pictures when I get him done.
