Having a Frikkin' Blast!!!
Some years ago, I remember telling Jim Jackson, "One day, I am gonna go back to playing alone. I am just so tired of the drama". I even remember from time-to-time telling guys in my league that I would. They felt I was threatening the welfare of the league. By no means was I trying to do that, just tired of things! Some thought, "No way he would ever play alone, he loves this too much or he needs us to run a league". Not true at all!
It is such a wonderful thing to be able to walk into one of your MF rooms and pick a game up in the 3rd quarter and not worry about if the opponent can come over an finish it out. Or sit across from a guy who you question ethics? Or give in to every call just to keep the peace. Now, all I do is argue with myself for making a D A M N interception! Or I second guess the Box on the play call because I get 2 audibles a half and I've got to make the right decision for those audibles! Things I wanted in the game, no one wanted (or just a few) like the stadiums, the crowd, the lights, the commentators, and all the things that kept me going in the game nonstop for 40 plus years! The only issue on starting up a solitaire league on the fly is creating and painting the teams as I go! That takes time, work, and dedication. First, you have to create the custom poses. Then you've got to paint them. And then, you base them and do a scrimmage. It's a labor of love-no doubt. The excitement comes when you know you've completed that 45 man roster and they are a part of your mantle and you can take them down and play them from here on out! The other day, it was raining so hard. I know if I would have played in a league, I would have had to postpone that game. Not this one! I went straight to the room and played 70 plays out of 100! Total joy and elation! It took my mind off serious worries and tragic moments. For me, it is therapeutic ALL THE TIME! I get to go in my fantasy world and just not dwell on my own unhappiness. It gives me an opportunity to see great players of different eras battle each other and learn about the history of the game. I am having so much FRIKKIN' FUN doing this and wish now, I would have broke off many years ago and went on and started my solitaire. But at that time, I was looking out for the best interest of everybody instead of my own best interest. Not a bad thing to do but for me, I now wonder if it was? But yes, I am loving this and I will always do this now! Reg |

its great to see you having so much fun. dont forget, your drive in running the TSO and maintaining the DFW league for so long, and along with your countless hours of help to others in starting leagues/tournaments, has been a very large part of the growth of the hobby. lots of guys are to be commended for their efforts in supporting the hobby, but you attacked it at many different angles, for that, we thank you. now go have fun playing your way, your game...and keep us updated on the scores and stats.

Welcome to my world, Reg. Now, if you really want some fun, try making up all your own teams. Nothing like watching your creations come alive right before your eyes. And the best part is that each player will develop his own persona. I'm telling ya, I can feel when Grog isn't in the mood to play, or when Klink is going to start choking and missing passes, or if Simpson is in a slice and dice mode. Then again, sometimes they surprise you and play over their heads. I love my solitaire league and wouldn't trade it for anything. Keep going with what you are doing Reg, and never look back!
