This is when the Chargers suddenly came to life and kept the Breakers out of the endzone. San Jose K Roy Gerela kicked a 25 yd FG to give San Jose a 17-3 lead with 1:45 to go in the half. Dan Fouts then ran a great 2 minute offense. He threw to Alworth for 12 yards and took a time out. Forsett then had another good return for San Jose bringing the ball back 34 yds to the Breakers 48. On third down White hit TE Doug Cosbie down to the SD 31. After a 2 yd loss by Newhouse White dropped back to throw. San Diego LB Junior Seau slammed into White forcing a fumble and San Diego recovered at their own 36. Two short runs by LT took the game to the end of the 3rd quarter tied at 17. As the final quarter opened San Diego failed to make a first down so they punted all the way to the San Jose 1 yard line but Justin Forsett returned it 29 yards to the Breakers 30 to get them out of a hole. The Chargers defense struck again when Antonio Cromartie intercepted Danny White’s pass intended for Tony Hill at the San Jose 43 and returned it 5 yds to the 38. Tomlinson broke off a 35 yard run to the San Jose 3 yd line. The Breakers defense did not break as they stopped the Chargers drive at the 3. John Carney hit from 20 yards for his second field goal of the game and San Diego led for the first time 20-17 with 9:32 left in the game. The Breakers got the biggest play of the game when Justin Forsett took the kickoff at his own 9 and sped 82 yards to the San Diego 9 yard line. This set up a 3 yard TD pass from White to Michael Turner and San Jose was back in the lead 24-20 with 6:24 to go. Darren Sproles returned the kick 25 yds to the s
San Diego 42 and Fouts went to work. On 3rd and 7 Fouts hit Charlie Joiner on a post pattern and the speedy receiver took the ball to the San Jose 7 yard line. Danny White had 2 timeouts and needed about 50 yards to get into field goal range. On first down he hit Barnett for 14 yards who got out of bounds at the Breakers 34 with 1:33 left. White then had to scramble and he did for 12 yards to the Breakers 46 and they called their second time out at the 1:19 mark. White then zipped a pass to the left sideline and Fred Barnett made a great catch and got out of bounds at the San Diego 38 with 62 ticks left in the game. The Breakers were just about in field goal range. White then dropped back and was hurried. He threw for Turner on a screen pass but Antonio Cromartie jumped in front of Turner and picked off the pass at the Chargers 28 yard line. Cromartie’s second pick of the game sealed the victory for San Diego. Three short runs by Tomlinson ran out the clock and San Diego had their second Super Bowl Title in franchise history. The Chargers last Super Bowl win was Super Bowl 5. Ladanian Tomlinson rushed for 172 yards and 1 TD and was named the games MVP. The 50th Anniversary Super Bowl in the NJLMFL was one of the best. San Jose got off to the quick start but 3 second half turnovers did them in ending the Cinderella run for this new expansion team. Winning coach Don Coyell shook hands with Breaker coach Jason Garrett at midfield and was then drenched in Gatorade by Junior Seau and Shawn Merriman. The Chargers then climbed up on the podium at midfield and accepted the game’s top prize, The Vince Lombardi Trophy.

San Jose was robbed!!! On that Fouts to Joiner TD, #51 of San Jose was not only held, but the Charger guy had a hold of his facemask. No TD and 15 yards. And on LTR’s other big run, #99 of the Chargers is definitely holding. He has his arms draped all around #75 of the Breakers. Where were the refs?? I think an investigation is in order here.

The reason for so many ex-Cowby players on the Breakers is that I have a Legends league where the existing NFL teams get their all-time roster. What ever players are not on that franchises all-time roster go to the expansion teams. For some of the teams with so many stars such as the Cowboys, Steelers, Raiders, Colts and so on I create some spin off teams of those franchises to create great rivalries and matchups. For instance:

San Jose Breakers- Many Cowboys from the 70's and 80's
Louisville Mustangs- Some Cowboys from the 90's and present day
Richmond Rebels- Mostly current Giants
New Portland Sharks team will be mostly extra Raiders
Hartford Renegades- Mostly Steelers from 90's and present day.

I also try to put these teams in the same division or conference as their parent teams. I now have players from 5 decades playing against each other.
With these kind of rosters no game is boring. There are star players on every team. This is not for everybody, but is sure pleasure for me.

These expansion teams get immediate credibility and help to create some all time great matchups. I have 16 expansion teams now and still have excess players so I will soon be adding 8 more teams to make 56.
