Default COWBOYS RALLY TO BEAT HARTFORD 20-17 ( RECAP AND PHOTOS )

TODAY IN THE NJLMFL- WHERE THE LEGENDS PLAY

NFC QUARTERFINALS

DALLAS COWBOYS AT HARTFORD RENEGADES

RECAP- Roger Staubach led the Cowboys on a second half comeback as the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Hartford Renegades 20-17 in todays game. Hartford put up two TD’s in the first quarter. Brian Westbrook scored on a 6 yard run and Hines Ward scored on a 55 yd pass from Ben Roethleisberger to give Hartford a 14-0 lead. After a scoreless second quarter the Renegades continued to lead the Cowboys 14-0. Head Coach Tom Landry replaced a ineffective Troy Aikman with Roger Staubach to begin the second half and it was the right move. After a Deion Sanders interception at the Renegade 31 Dallas cut the Hartford lead in half late in the 3rd quarter on a Tony Dorsett 2 yard run on 4th down. After 3 quarters it was Hartford 14, Dallas 7. The 4th quarter began with Hartford continuing to move the ball on the Dallas defense but their drive stalled at the Dallas 33. In came kicker Robby Gould and he hit a clutch 50 yard field goal to make it 17-7 Renegades. The Cowboys came right back. A Staubach to Drew Pearson pass for 49 yards set up a 17 yard Staubach scramble for a TD to make it 17-14 with only 3:48 left in the game. Hartford got the kick and tried to run out the clock. The Cowboys used 1 timeout and the 2 minute warning as they forced Hartford to a 3 and out. The booming punt went through the Cowboy endzone for a touchback. Dallas had the ball 1st and 10 from their own 20 with 1:51 left in the game and 2 time outs. They didn’t need them. On 1st down Staubach rolled right to buy some time and found Tony Dorsett down the middle of the field. Roger hit Dorsett in stride and he outran the Hartford secondary for an 80 yard TD with 1:39 left in the game. Raphiel Septien missed the extra point to leave the score at 20-17. The Renegades got the ball back at their own 44 needing only a field goal to tie and only 2 timeouts. Roethleisberger foud Ward and he got to the Cowboy 47 with 1:19 to go and a timeout was called. On the next play Harvey Martin sacked Big Ben and Hartford had to use their last timeout. After a short pass to TE Vernon Davis got the ball to the Cowboy 42 with only :13 left Hartford went for the Hail Mary but the Cowboys had everyone well covered and the best Hartford could do was a short pass to Westbrook who was tackled at the Dallas 35 to end the game. Dallas will move on to face the #1 seed Carolina Panthers in the Divisional round.
