question for people using Miggle carry cases
1 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I'm still searching for a good carry case solution to carry my team (with bases). Making my own will be quite expensive (foam + box) comparing to a ready to use solution (especially with the stron Euro : buying in USA is often more interesting than buying in my own country...it certainly explains a little the french economic situation :D ). So I think I'll buy a dedicated carry case or two (since I will give a team for my brother christmas, it should be a cool gift if I can offer him the team painted in his own carry box). Since I will make an order soon in Miggle store (essantially for bases), I 'm looking for the cheap solutions Miggle offers so I can combine the shipping cost to my country. I know I can find stuff on ebay for example (warhammer cases, etc...) but if I can save money and buy everything in one shop...it should be nice (not speaking of the fact I'd support the EF business). So I searched on the forum for information : someones says that Miggle boxes can't accept figures+bases, other says it works...On miggle website, we can find 2 carry cases, big and smalls. http://www.miggle.com/store/item.asp...PARTMENT_ID=92 http://www.miggle.com/store/item.asp...PARTMENT_ID=92 If I understand correctly, the figs are carried standing ? Remember that I use exclusively (for the moment at least) FF.net figures to make my teams : are that cases big enough for my ff.net big men ? Miggle is speaking of 2 teams and 8teams capacity : I guess they 're speaking of 22 figures capacity (little box) and 88 (big box) ? I'm confortable with cutting and other DIY stuff : if the Miggle cases are not good for my purpose (= carrying safely my FF.net teams including tweaked bases), do you think I could easily modify the case to fit my needs ? If anyone using these products could make me pictures and give explainations, it should be great thmbsp$ Thanks, Dimitri |
Warhammer Cases
Work Great also Dimitri

Warhammer
or games workshop case - works great for my son's teams - thinking of it - I need one for myself.

thanks, but...
I know that warhammers cases are good :

:D in the worst case, I'll certainly buy one (not warhammer because gamesworkshop are too pricey for me, but a wargames dedicated carry case), but if I can save a little money on shipping and buy everything in Miggle... ;) Anyone is using the Miggle carry cases products ? |
I agree the Warhammer case the best available without any adjustments.
But if you want the Miggle case , you can maybe trim the cutouts more to fit your figures with an exacto knife. I know the Miggle cases are alot cheaper. |
thanks for the answer :)

It's what I was planning to do. I was wondering if anyone here has already tried to modify a Miggle carry case to that purpose  |
I have a miggle carrying case, but obviously I haven't had to transport my figures anywhere.:D
The miggle case looks very cool and they are good for storing your unpainted players. I have no idea if the case affects the prongs tho. |
perhaps you could make pictures of it (with figures and bases, so I can compare) so I can see if a modification is possible ?
thanks |
bump
Any picture of the miggle case inside with some figures (ff.net or other big ones +bases mounted) in/on it would be very appreciated. The point is to see if as Mc Gyver (my all time favorite american hero :D ), I should be able to make something with it.
Think about it : buying some foam and a case here in france : 20euros (about 30USD), then cutting the figures "holes" buying a warhammer case, including shipping : 45euros (!!!) buying a miggle big case : 25dollars (17 euros, I don't count the shipping since I plan a future ordering for bases), then make the standard "holes" bigger (with xacto knife or cutter). The unknown point is, without pictures, I can't see if that modification is possible. Thanks ppls$ |
I honestly have never seen anyone with one of Miggles cases, I think that is why you are having a hard time getting an answer.

Dimitri
I play at a high level. I can't afford to have my highly tweaked bases altered. This will happen with this case because the foam is too tight and when you place a player they are in tight and it affects the prongs.
I tried for a year using the case but I can't have my safeties damaged and before each game I found myself frantically trying to fix players who ran perfectly before I put them in the case. You will have to modify the case which means it will hold less players. The players also need to be laid on their sides with plenty of room to avoid the brushes (Reeds) being damaged. You should never stand your men up while storing. The weight and the twisting and turning of the reeds during travel can cause permanent damage to that player you spent so much time tweaking. Unfortunately, the Miggle carrying case seems designed for players to "stand" while stored. Again, I am not trying to discourage you from buying. I am just letting you know that you will definitely have to modify the case to make it work for you. |
I have a case with an old school iron man squad in it, I will try to take a pic or two tonight.
|
thank you both !
I'll see the pics tonight to make my decision, reading for your advises too. We'll see ;)
I think on week end I'll go to hardware stores and stuff like that to see if I can find a better way to store my figs. @Sweetka : you're saying to not stand the figs for storage. so if I understand correctly, you place them on their side, in big cases (so the figs can move freely) ? thanks |
Yes!
If you restrict their movement and place then in tightly you will lose that player for weeks. It's just that simple. You would have to wait for the plastic to go back to it's current state.

ok, so...

perhaps we can take a miggle case, and modify (cut) two "slots" to make a bigger one ?
So the big 88figs case will carry only about 2 complete (22) players or a big team with special squads and options ? |
My apologies, will try again tonight.

Miggle Case in Use

Here are some pics of two vintage iron man squads in one of Miggle's cases, it is the smaller of the two cases they sell.
To be honest, the way this comes it is not made for the professional level MF player at all. The few I have seen in use have had the foam heavily modified/cut up, it is a nice try, but the Games Workshop cases can't be beat in my opinion. You can also find in craft stores and in large fishing supply stores/catalogs, big flat plastic boxes with square cells in which a based up player or two will fit into quite nicely. Oh well, you be the judge on the Miggle case, you asked for it, here it is. |
I have a two deep case and my players go in sideways....I cut the foam to allow me to slide them in without laying the prongs down or anything touching the prongs. Less guys fit that way, but the team is snug and secure! I have overflow....but that still works out.

Thank you Shabby J for the detailed pictures thmbsp$
For what I see, we certainly can do something re-cutting the inside foam the way I spoke before (make 1 "slot" with 2)... since if I choose Miggle case, I'll have to do some "mac gyvering", I have to go in town to see if I can find something cheap how can do the same job. thanks to all for your help thmbsp$ Quote:
the problem is that the figures and bases will be "shaked" in, since there is no foam inside that type of boxes ? |

I have seen many of these cases where foam, felt, other padding was added to limit movement and they work rather well. |
good idea....I've got plenty of old carpet to do that job...Now I have to find boxes, it will be easy. thmbsp$
I'll see that tommorow, I'll go to the hardware store to see if I find anything. If the price is too expensive, i'll go for a miggle box. thanks |
