I use games workshop paints and put down layers of different color paints to give it a realistic look , that is called dry brushing . It is a different technique not used by more than a handful of guys on this site, but if you have a custom figure that is detailed this looks 1000 bazillion times better than anything else for realism. You can even ad some of the Met dirt on their uniforms.
