It's the way I think. For a "stock" category, 3.2g is a good candidate I believe. |

I think making a "stock" category is putting to fine a point on it. I say make it 3.2 (I'm a 4.0 guy myself) and let the coach decide if he wants to use stock or customized figures...as long as he/she does not go over 3.2.

3.2grams...or 3.3 that is the question
If you think about the guys who will buy a miggle set, or an old tudor complete set with fab5 figs and miggle bases, these guys will start playing with teams under 3.0-3.2grams (even with ttc and facemasks). I just tested a unpainted buzzball fig on a ttc : 2.97 grams. A painted miggle (I believe) on a ttc : 2.75grams. So making a 3.0grams category is too tight and restrictive. BUT I don't know if once it's painted, facemask (and perhaps with flocked plateform) and on a DDB base, we raise easily the 3.2grams or more ? It's one think we should think to know if we should go for a "starter" category under 3.2 or 3.3grams. |

I think one thing that should be considered is how much weight adds up to a competitive disadvantage? Can a 3.3 compete effectively with a 4.0 if all other variables are the same? If we ask that question, at what point is their a substantial difference?
How did boxing decide that a 160 pounder had a competitive disadvantage to a 168 pounder and created midleweight and super middleweight as well as numerous other divisions..

For my linemen, it's obvious : Same tweaking (I can swap the bases with same result), the weight make my 4.0 (certainly a little more, between 4.0 and 4.2) niner stronger than my 3.0 packer. |

My friend and I did some research into this many years ago. We found that around .3 is where you start noticing the difference. .1 doesn't really mean a thing. .2 and sometimes there's a difference, but not much. .3 and things change. by .5 the lighter guy will start going backwards consistently. For anyone who is interested, a BB weighs appx. .4grams Put a BB under a rookie base and it will weigh pretty much the same as a TTC base.
Keep in mind that this is with all other things being equal as far as tweaking goes. A well tweaked base will push back a poor tweaked base, even if it is lighter than the poor base.
